Anyone had repairs from pyrite?

Hello,
We are due to be tested for pyrite shortly. Its either the foundations or pyrite, but I feel its pyrite.
I want to prepare myself for what lies ahead. If we are confirmed to have pyrite, and the repairs are to be done, how long does it take? Will we have to move out fully? As in do we strip all carpets fittings, bedrooms, etc. As its only the ground floor being worked on can we leave upstairs or too much dust? What have others done, and was everything (kitchens, carpets) put back or did you need new units etc? would love to hear someones experience of what they went throuh, thanks

thanks but I have read every single thread, and none of them refer in detail to what is involved in having pyrite repairs done. I have a young family and would like to prepare myself for what disruption lies ahead. We are being tested on thursday, and am dreading my wooden floor having to be ripped up to test! Fingers crossed I get a good result.

welcome to the world of pyrite and of course AAM.

We had to move out for 4-5 days due to the dust & noise etc. I am surprised you haven't been advised this yet ??

Here's basically what happened us regards testing for pyrite

(1) wooden floors or tiled floors downstairs comes up
(2) tape up doors leading from kitchen to say living room if infill is taken from kitchen
(3) generally tape up with polythene the kitchen cupboards & doors leading upstairs
(4) the stairs opening was taped up with polythene too to stop dust going upstairs
(5) moved kitchen furniture to sitting room and was covered over (emptied the kitchen/room)
(6) appliances covered by polythene too
(7) drill through concrete slab downstairs probably in the kitchen area under wooden floor
(8) leave opening approx 2ft x 2ft wide to allow access to stones
(9) stones/infill removed by hand into bucket etc and sent off for analysis to Trinity or elsewhere
(10) await results.

When you get your results back, then post again.

Thanks for reply, we just been tested this morning, luckily they took sample from outside (down and in) as we have underfloor heating. Our worst fears, looks like we have pyrite, you could see the yellow sulphur in the sample they took. We do have to wait 6wks for official results but the pyrite team here, have said there is pyrite there. I am so gutted, now a long battle ahead to repair the house and most importantly get someone to pay for it. I believe homebond are a joke!!!
 
Folks - we are trying to get affected people to protest outside the Homebond offices to try to get some publicity. If anyone is interested in getting involved can you let me know.

Just for all interested, the Pyrite Action committee presented at 4m today to the Oireachtas Working group set up to look at this problem. This is a entirely voluntary, non political group set up to try to put a focus on this issue. There is a facebook page...search under Pyrite Action ( I'd post the link but not allowed as have too few posts ) THe presentation should be covered on the RTE news at 9 tonight
