My work takes me abroad for weeks at a time at various times during the year. I would like to let out my 1 bed apt on a short let basis while I am absent but can't find any agents who do that type of thing. I don't want to advertise privately as I would prefer an agent to check out refs etc. Any information appreciated.

Have you clarified the tax implications of this move - e.g. possible loss of owner occupier status and all that comes with that?

That's the big issue but also think about the logistics of what you propose. Are you going to clear out all your personal stuff every time you travel? What happens if the place is damaged? There's easier ways of making money.

Yes, no problem there, I am registered for tax, am a sole trader and have all my accounts in order.

I have just returned from a few years abroad and had the apt let out in my absence. I have now redecorated and will be away until the end of August so thought it might be feasible to let it out while unoccupied. I best I have come up is Dial-a-Short-Let but they only appear to be interested in corporate lets in the Dublin 2 area, while my place is located near UCD. At the end of the day I suppose I am looking for a corporate let where I would have references.

I see what you say, Purple, about easier ways to make money and I'm sure there are but I have let it out very successfully to visiting bank officials, lecturers etc, but on a 3 or 6 month lease. I am now off to Alaska for a couple of weeks and thought it would be a good way to finance the trip to some extent. As for moving my personal stuff, I haven't moved it back yet due to the redecoration but it's now second nature anyway after all my travels.
