Anybody reconsidering their travel plans to the States?

I don’t think I would plan a trip to the US right now.

Not a fear over Iran, perhaps a small fear over hassle at the airport etc. but really it’s a kind of voting with my feet and pocket.

This is the choice the majority of Americans have made. It’s a way of showing disapproval in that choice and in Trumps actions.

Unrelated. I found travellers in the third reich an interesting book…

I don’t think the US has been an attractive place to visit for a long time, probably since 9/11 after which a culture of suspicion and fear seems to have taken over.

I remember waiting hours at immigration in LA some years ago and witnessing a particularly hostile performance from homeland security. The Trump administration is really just doubling down on the culture of fear that has its origins in the Bush/Cheney era.

Given the relative ease with which travel to other countries is possible, it’s become difficult to justify going to the US in the absence of any compelling reason.

Is similar true for Ireland? I am a dual Irish and Canadian citizen and have always entered each with the corresponding passport but never had clear direction.
No, its a US rule. Other countries make their own rules. Its clearly stated here, in bold. https://travel.state.gov/content/tr...quishing-US-Nationality/Dual-Nationality.html

I have a friend who was turned back for not having his US Passport with him and I have a friend with dual citizenship who travels between the two countries a lot and border officers have told her its taken very seriously.

By they way I just saw an article in the Irish Times saying that those looking for a VISA will need to show 5 years of their social media!
Just watched last nights Six One news and they seemed or at least I inferred from the report that this is just for students and the J1 visa??

In the past we've always left it blank simply because we don't really do social media, my only social media would be this website and YouTube where I post vids of my online gaming so I presume going forward I'll have to declare them ??

On the assumption that we are still going I’ll have to apply for esta. I might have a look at my social media. A few relatives in the USA would be fairly vocal anti-rump. Mind you a few others are very MAGA. Makes for a bit of banter over family reunions.
I’ve blocked a few (former) friends over their constant MAGA posts.

Usually mixed bag of middle class Americans I think. A few surprises for me when it all came to up last year. I dislike the idea of spending my hard earned money there but not enough to take the hit on the cruise costs,

I declared mine on my Esta, just my facebook and instagram, nothing to hid really. I don't get involved in anything political on them. I have trimmed down my whatsapp and deleted the word Trump from any conversation, not that there was many.

After that what else can you do only smile and nod.

That's how I feel too. I'd rather see more of Europe than more of America. I've been to the US more than 20 times, mainly for business, and while there are parts of it I love it's just not as interesting as Europe. We have so much more cultural and historical depth and it's so much easier and cheaper to get around within the EU.
