any tips to unscrew a circular lamp cover

the bulb in my bathroom has gone, its covered by a cream circular ceramic/glass shade that screws up into the fitting, for love nor money I can't unscrew it and feel that any more force will break it, any suggestions on how it get the lamp shade unscrewed from the fitting?
 
Put a firm set of steps or a chair underneath so you have a good steady position. Put the palm of your hand on either side of the globe, gently apply some pressure upwards and give the globe a firm, two-handed twist (a little bit sudden like!) in an anti-clockwise direction. I'd be surprised if that doesn't do it (I have three of the bleeders in my house!). When re-assembling, only tighten it as far as it can go with gentle turning, ie, it does not need to be screwed on 'tight'. They are hard to break, but if it does, simply replace it.
 
Wear heavy gloves and goggles if you think there is a danger of the globe breaking.
 
thanks for the tips, thought force might be the answer,but I got up on the ladder again and I noticed some white silicone type stuff sticking out about an inch in lenght, got the stanley knife at that, and low and behold it just screwed off, the silicone sealer was just slightly mis-aligned, hence the difficulty, but thanks for your replies, bulb replaced and all is well, I don't have to pee in the dark anymore
 
Remember to use another bit of silicone when refitting!
Mine didn't have any, fell in the middle of the night and smashed, and also smashed my glass basin as it fell!

They should not require any sealant or silicon, just hand tighten properly as described above. If sealant is used, you end up with the OP's initial difficulty. None of mine has any sealant, never will have and none has ever fallen. If it fell, I can only imagine that it must not have been properly fitted in the first place, although I am sorry to hear of your experience - did your insurance cover your losses?
 
Do not use silicone to refit the globe-type light-shades in bathrooms. This is very dangerous practice, apart from being smelly as the silicone cures. My shades came with a reusable circular rubber gasket to prevent moisture ingress
 
Mathpac, thats what was in the shade when I finally got it off, it a circular rubber washer like gizmo, perhaps in my ignorance I used the word silicone, the washer has now fitted snugly back into the shade and has screwed in perfectly
