We have a glass sliding door that neither of us can stand the sight of! It's very worn and needs replacing, along with its surround.

We are not cash flush, at the moment, so possibly replacing it would cost us an arm and a leg. If anyone has any ideas on cost; would be appreciated.

It is also a security problem, as post can be seen quite clearly from the road (living on very busy main road).

Has anyone successfully painted the surround of the door frame and frame of door itself?

Approx @2k for a new PVC one and they may throw in a post box.

Be very very careful who you choose, a lot of con men put there. They buy from factories in the North (some are OK, some are no so good) and install themselves. If they are one of the many chancers around then your new door my not close properly (ever), leak, look bad......)

So look at neighbours, ask, especially if they have had many teething problems (bad), any problems getting them back to fix, any other problems.

You could put a window film on the glass to obscure it, while still allowing light in.

Leo, is window film purchased at a regular hardware store? Also would anyone have any idea where I could buy those window stencils that give the illusion of boxes within the window pane? I have no idea what the correct name for them is?
