Antivirus 2008 pop up - watch out do not click

but just off the phone from colleague who clicked and paid for what he thought was Norton Antivirus 2008. Looks the same in every respect. He also got charged for support and another cleaner program (€110 in total).

DO NOT EVER click a link on your desktop that tells you that you have an infection and need such and such software.

DO NOT EVERY pay online for something without doing at least a Google search for the company name or product.

DO NOT EVER be the 1,000,000 visitor to a site. It's a scam just look up what happened to "Jane O'Keeffe"
 
Managed to get this cleared off someones pc. Only thing i've failed to put right is that under 'my computer', the hard disk drive and dvd drive are not listed. Anyone any ideas as to how to put this right?

When drives are missing first place to check is this

In XP - Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative tools, Computer Management, Disk Management, then on bottom right ensure drives have a drive patch, right click for options on drive letters.
