I got a new laptop with vista home prem.

I suspect all the antivirus lot are pretty much the same.

Anyone recommend best / most reasonable priced.

McAfee is on 30 day trial at the moment.

I have BB from NTL so I guess i should play it safe.

Thanks.

I use Avg Free - fromm Grisoft. Excellent & best of all its free.
Just Google avg, download version 8 & away you go. It will automatically update the virus defenition when you connect to the i.net so you'll always be up to date.

I use Avira Antivi and is free. Seems fine for personal use.

There was a good thread on this a while ago, sorry can't find link at the mo (will have another look)

Just a quick question, are there any problems with these and Vista, I use Avast, is this good enough?

I use Avast on all my company computers and we have yet to encounter a virus/trojan issue.

One of my guys used to have AVG and unfortunately did encounter an issue, so I'd stick with Avast, just purely from my personal experience. howevr I am sure there are plenty out there that will counter that;)

please note,i use avg free, its excellent, but got message from them today, apparently from end of may there will be no more free updates, you have to upgrade to avg 8 to get updates(not free).

Are you sure? I understood the update to AVG 8 was just going to be the same as the one to AVG 7.5...in that free updates for 7.5 would end and would be for 8 in future.

7.5 is being replaced by 8.0. Theres a free version of 8, I'm currently downloading it. They just won't support the old version anymore.

apologies to all,aircobra19 your on the ball, new free release avg8 coming down the line.

Hi,

Has anyone used Nod 32?

A friend of mine swears by it. I think its about €40. Would like a few other opinions if possible before I buy/try it.

It will give you an warning about updates not being enabled until you go into settings and set a schedule for updates.

I was trying Kaspersky but it kept nagging me, so I switched back to AVG.
