My son has now been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and I had a machine delivered today with a mask to be plugged in through the night.
This is and added condition to his pre existing condition. As I have said previously he or I do not have medical cards so I pay the 100 eu for his meds each month and doctors appointments and for two days in hospital last month.
With my combined part time earnings and reduced opfa it is hard enough however I am outside the limit marginally for medical card.
Now I have to pay 100 eu for a mask and 67eu a month for the machine. I will have the 67 euro refunded every 3 months or so. I have to buy filters etc. Im not sure if it uses a lot of electricity and if so does anybody know if there is help with this.
I had a department Inspector out with me today confirming details etc and again like some of you guys suggested disability benefit for him. I told her I was reluctant to encourage this at a young age but she said he could work etc part time. but understood my concerns. I had not found out at this stage about the breathing device costs etc.
I just dont know anymore. Advice on this electricity thing would be helpful if anyone knows.
