Hi -

I have an elderly parent (age 80) who has been on the above plan all her life, and who is hesitant to change from it. She is in very good health, and is very keen to keep the same level of benefits for hip/knee replacements, cardiac and access to high tech hospitals.

She has a medical card. Generally very healthy but still has a number of consultant appointments each year. Has not been in hospital for many years, but obviously, old age can change this very quickly.

Would appreciate your input please.

Thanks

Hi NY_Resident,

The alternative VHI options to compare are as follows;

1. VHI HealthPlus Access; price 2167pa; same hospital cover as before, very slightly less day to day cover, refund of 60 per consultant visit compared
to 70 on current plan. etc.

The following 2 plans are cheaper in price and have similar cover to HealthPlus Extra and HealthPlus Access, but the only difference is there is
an excess to pay for admissions or day case in a private or hi-tech hospital. Details as follows;

2. VHI Healthplus Excess; price 1940pa; same hospital cover as before with a 75 euro excess to pay on admission to a private or hi-tech hospital,
day case excess 75 per procedure. Similar enough day to day cover as before, refund of 60 per consultant visit compared to 70 on current plan. etc.

3. VHI Health Access; price 1821pa; same hospital cover as before with a 125 euro excess to pay on admission to a private or hi-tech hospital,
day case excess 125 per procedure. Similar enough day to day cover as before, refund of 60 per consultant visit compared to 70 on current plan etc.

I'm sure she would be reluctant to switch to a different provider, but for comparison purposes the following Laya healthcare plan is a very good value
alternative option. Details as follows;
4. Laya Simplicity plan; price 1370pa; all public, private(including a private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, excess capped
at 100 x 2 max per year for all private or hi-tech admissions, regardless how many. Day case excess 50 per procedure. No excess applies to any
public hospital. Similar day to day cover as before, refund of 50% for consultants, gp, etc.
Note; a private room in a private hospital is fully covered on this plan, not covered on the VHI plans.

Thanks a lot Snowyb — let me digest this and compare the various plans.....but this is an extremely helpful start for us.
