Alert for someone elses post?

I got an alert today for a post that was made by another user.

I didn't even contribute to the thread.

Bit odd?

Very odd.

1) Leo made a post today at 11.35
2) MelF quoted it at 2.18 https://askaboutmoney.com/threads/e...-it-be-moved-and-who-pays.222927/post-1712973
3) You got a note to say that you had been quoted, although it was Leo?

Has anyone else been told that their post was quoted when the post was someone else's?

It seems to be possible when using the multi quote tool.

Adding all the quotes to a new post and then manually deleting (backspace) can cause quotes to merge, removing the actual poster.

I'd imagine someone quoted a post from a different thread in error, saw the error after they posted and then edited their post to remove the quote. But the alert had already been created at that stage.

I looked at that post which Thirsty got the alert, toggling on the BB Code you can see the poster did have an empty quote from Thirsty in there along with the quote of my post.

Oh sorry, yes I quoted Leo to say thank you, and noticed immediately after I posted that a quote from Thirsty relating to another thread had also been quoted for some reason, so I went back in and deleted it. Apologies!

When you quote a post, it stays in your "clipboard" until you post it.

So if you don't post it, and then quote another post, it will appear.

If you fear you may have done that, hit the square brackets button to the top right of the text box to toggle BB code, you'll be able to see and delete the empty quote easily there.
