AIB Personal Current account - how to add spouse to it

I have an AIB personal current account. I would like to add my spouse to it so that in the event of my death my spouse will get any savings that I have in my account. I heard that with AIB, I cannot add another person to my account and make it a joint account and in the event of my death all money in my account any money in my account will get locked out with no one able to access it.

I was told that I have to create a new personal account with my spouse added to it.

Any one in similar situation? What are the options?

It seems a lot easier to open a joint account.

Then over time move over your various direct debits and standing orders.

According to the AIB website you can't convert an individual account to a joint account. Only option is to open a new joint account.
