Advice on scanning 35mm negatives

Was thinking of starting a project to scan all my old 35mm negatives and was looking for some advice. For eg what equipment to use / best method - outsource or buy a scanner / good online guide etc etc . Also is there any 'gotchacs' I should look out for before starting this task. Would this be a good scanner ?

I looked at this a few months ago, but couldn't find any decent reviews. Could anyone comment?
 


I am no expert but bought a unit very similar to this recently from QVC and am happy with the results. It was branded SUMMIT, but is exactly the same spec and shape. Mine cost £69.

Any chance you could post a few samples to show us the quality. Are you using slides or negatives? What size are they?
