I've been digging around in google and could do with some help. I have a bunch of DVDs at home that I'd like to convert to .avi so that they can be stored on an external hard.
Ideally if someone could outline the steps and software needed (preferably free).
Handbrake is pretty good, and the newest version accepts practically any type of video format as a source, but bear in mind that copying copyright-protected DVDs is illegal. Of course, if it's DVDs of your own home movies or whatever, that's different.
There are lots of video tutorials out there on YouTube and the like. Check out the guides on doom9.org and avforums.com for more technical discussion.
