Hello

Im wondering if anyone out there might know the answer to this for me?

I am currently doing the ACCA course however i have i have nothing on my Student Training Record as yet.

My current employer is paying for me to sit this course in the hopes that i can then be the companies accountant as they currently outsource the mgt accounts etc although i do help with the preperation etc.

I am wondering if i stay here in this job will i never actualy get my ACCA qualification as i will not have gained the necessary ecperience?

Does anyone know this as i am rather confised? I was led to believe when i started this course that you only needed the Experience if you planned to do accounting in a practice.? Hence why i am only asking this question now 2 years into the course!!!

Thanks

Jenny

Hi Jeny

You will need 3 years relevant experiance, signed off by a workplace mentor who should be a qualified accountant, in order to be fully qualified ie obtain your letters (ACCA) once you have passed all the exams. This applies to all students, not just those who work/plan to work in practice.

The experiance can be gained before, during or after your studies.

The ACCA website has lots of information on the subject

God i have been really misled then!!!

When i asked out external accountant about this 2 years ago she said only if i wanted to practice did i need the STR. But now im discovering that i will have sat 13 exams and not qualify as i havent gotten any practical experience signed off?

God i need a slap in the face i think ive been living in lala land!

So after my current employers have paid for me to do this course, if i actualy want to be qualified i have to leave for 3 years?

Had a simliar problem where my Managing Director never actually finished his accountancy qualification. Got the Compliance Officer to sign off on my training record although i had little day to day involvment with him.

From memory it's possible to get your Auditors to sign off on your taining record if you're not actually working with a qualified accountant. This was a few years ago so probably best to ring A.C.C.A to confirm

Thanks Roy, I have actualy handed in my notice in current job to move to practice which i think will benefit me best in the end getting more experience aswell as gaining my Training records!

Lets hope i actualy like it afater studieng all these years
