I think it's unlikely (the former rather than the latter) but it's still possible. That's a serious amount of eggs in one basket. The next (Trump) government will be far more isolationist than this one.

Anything is possible, but let’s be a little more ‘glass is half full’. Our ‘basket’ is some of the biggest, most successful companies in the world. And they’re growing, rather than shrinking! The associated tax take is expected to increase rather than decrease.

Don't be under any illusions Ireland plays a key role in ensuring the success of US corporates as they step out onto the world stage (by effectively shielding them from high US domestic corporate taxes and high taxes in other jurisdictions like germany -29.9%).....the US system of tax deferral through offshore IP structures in low tax economies (facilitated by Ireland/Lux/Netherlands) is well understood by the US administration (on both sides of the aisle) to be a way that the US advantages its domestic companies to succeed globally.

The value in this shows up not in the US treasury but in the 401k accounts of US retirees and in the economic dominance which twins nicely with strategic/military dominance of US companies in every sector you care to look at.

Put more simply - Ireland is a key partner to US firms and the US government in helping their indigenous firms beat & dominate European /global rivals.....it is/was a huge structural advantage...for example...in the mid-2010's SalesforceUSA might have paid 35% corp tax on its US profits, while SalesforceEMEA paid 1%....just as long as it didn't send the profits back to the USA...loaded up with those offshore profits.....you can see how SalesforceEMEA was incentivised and advantaged to grow their European business aggressively to be the juggernaut it is today versus say a french firm trying to sell their CRM system.

What I see is short-termism and vote-buying.

There is a Private Wires Policy, which will give a right to private businesses to build their own connections.

"The intention is that by allowing “Private Wires”, we will see an accelerated investment in new electricity infrastructure to include renewable generation and storage,which will ultimately benefit the whole electricity system."

Though the Government needs to get a move on with legislation & implementation.
