Having worked for my employer for 8 years nearly and it being a very technical company with "few" employees in my area of expertise, it has been decided recently the directorship would like to upgrade my contract of employment to include a 6 month notice period which I would have to give should I wish to leave (working the other way around presumably should they wish to terminate me also)
Now I cannot help thinking signing a 6 month period would severely limit my options in the future should other opportunities arise, and also I do not see them having to terminate me on 6 months as of nearly as much benefit to me as the company would gain?
Thoughts also are that in future, pay rises and bonuses could more easily/conveniently be withheld due the the sheer difficulty I would face leaving hence still encourage staying!
So I guess what I need to know is what sort remuneration should I be expecting/ask for with this sort of guaranteed term?
Is it even normal for employers to do this?
Should I sign?
