I am currently working as a Receptionist, 9-5 Monday to Friday. I earn €28k.
I have just started a part time job, 3 nights per week in a restaurant. I will earn min wage, so €8.65 per hour. (approx 25 hours)
I rang the tax office yesterday - I had presumed I'd get payed cash in hand so when asked for PPS number and bank account details I panicked a bit! - I was afraid it wouldn't be worth my while but the tax office said that I shouldn't pay very much tax.
Has anyone got experience of working 2 "legal" jobs?
I am hoping to do this for 6 months to pay off some debts and finally save some cash.
Thanks.

Hi Carina,

I've done it for the past 4 years and its never been an issue. Both places are registered and I pay tax etc. in both. I don't get taxed too much; I remember panicking like you at first, thinking it wouldnt be worth my while. But it definitely was They both paid me weekly so I didnt see too much of a change.

One thing to note though is you - take care of yourself, start taking vitamins, you'll be surprised how quickly your body can become run down by being constantly on the go.

Thanks a million! Was hoping someone would say that!
I get payed monthly in the office but will get payed weekly in the restaurant.
Yes am going to get pharmaton tomorrow!
Thanks again, that's a relief.

No prob. Don't disillusion yourself though, you will still be paying tax on both, but its not too much - it will be worth it to cut down loans, etc.

Not to mention the work will keep you busy so you wont have time to spend!

Just make sure you get tax credits and bands divided correctly(assume single Credit) Ask tax office to allocate along following lines

Job 1- Tax Band 28K for Job one(no overtime/bonus) with full credits at lower rate

Job2-Tax band 8400 at lower rate rest at higher rate, no credits

Do tax return a year end to balance up and hope breakeven or refund

Who asked for bank account details?

The extra money should make a big difference.

Will you get tips and how are they treated?

Make sure you have your new Employer's Registered No. to hand when ringing the tax office to allocate your credits and SRCOP as Papervalue has suggested, and you will get your new Cert. of credits in a couple of days.

Thanks folks.
Will do that on Tues.
New boss in restaurant asked for bank details. Get payed through bank once per week.
Tips are allocated once per week also, different day. We get 70% into the hand and 30% goes through pay roll as "service charge".
I will be exhausted so only plan on doing it for a few months - it will be great to be able to pay things off AND save and yes, won't be spending because I'll be working at weekends...

Would you get 2 P-60s at year end?

Does the Revenue inform Employer A that you are also working with Employer B?
