26" LG LCD TV or Samsung LCD TV plus Digital TV query

Can anybody out there advise which would be better to buy a Samsung HD ready 26" LCD or a LG 26" LCD digital TV?I like the look of the Samsung 26" but is the LG a better TV with the digital tuner built in?

My main concern is over this digital signal coming in a year or two. If I have a large TV in my main sitting room with the SKy box already linked up and then in my other sitting room I was going to buy the 26" TV and if it didn't have the sky box attached to it what will happen it in two years when the digital signal comes in. Will I incur additional charges from SKy to get the digital signal to this TV? Somebody mentioned that a box will be only needed for this additional TV but how much will the box be to get this digital signal?
Sky advised that for the UK customers moving over to digital TV - you either need to buy a digital TV or keep your existing TV and get an additional sky box and pay €15 a month per TV set on top of your normal monthly subscription for your TV already linked up to the main SKy box.

Would you be just better to buy a digital TV now to avoid the possibility of these additional monthly charges or does anybody out there technically minded know what will exactly happy in Ireland when we go digital for those additional TV's in your house that don't currently have a sky box linked to it except Red eye which allows you to watch the same SKy channel downstairs in other rooms within your house?

Go for the Samsung. I've never owned an LG product I've been satisfied with and haven't wanted to fling out the window. They just don't put as much thought interface as they should.

I wouldn't buy a digital TV just for the sake of it either. In terms of your Sky set up, nothing will chance. Any secondary TV's hooked up the box via the red eye will work the same. If you do wish to get a digital reception on a separate TV then you will simply need a decoder, and assuming it happens the same way it did in the UK they aren't very expensive at all.

Two years seems very optimistic in terms of even getting it off the ground over here. As with any technological advance in this country (see broadband) no one is in a hurry to do anything about it because it means spending money. The UK have only had it since 1998...

I bought a 26" Samsung LCD TV with a decoder built in last spring and I am extremely happy with it. The screen is bright and clear, and the sound is fine. I have an LG DVD Recorder which is great as well, so I have nothing against that brand either.

I need a new 26" LCD - any recommendations on price particularly? I am interested in Samsung.

I got a Plasma Samsung about a month ago and it's fantastic. Would recommend it!

Am in the very same situation, looking for a 26".

After a wee bit of research it seems clear that the best ones are Samsung and Sony, which are also the most expensive.

Sony and Samsung actually have a joint manufacturing plant for their LCD parts, its the same parts that go in both, but technically Samsung own more of the IPR.

the samsung 26" (R88) and the Sony T3000 were about €699 2 months ago, but just last week the high-street stores reduced the 32" Samsung to €699, so persumably the 26" has dropped too.

I got a 26" samsung through Komplett for 610 including delivery a few months ago

It seems some 26" are more expensive than 32" - unfortunately my living room is just too small for a 32" - 12 feet * 12 feet with tv going in the corner. I've gone off Samsung after reading some reports about speakers not being great but as you say parts are same for both -all parts? -who know's -anyway back to google!

I have a 32" LG LCD in one bedroom and a 26" Samsung in another and I'm perfectly happy with both of them. In my opinion the only thing you have to worry about is what colour you want,if you wanted to get a 26" LG I dont think they come in black like the Samsung (I'm open to correction).

LG LC55 26" is black - has two 7 watt speakers. Is this enough sound for a small enough room?

Point of note:
All 26" -> 42" seems to be 1366 x 768 resolution. Does this measn that the 26" will appear much less pixulated that the bigger screens? (so the 26" will be a clearer picture than the similar pixel range on a bigger screen)

This probably explains the similar prices too; the technology is the same spec, the 32" just has more plastic
