2009 - was it a 53 week year for payroll?

I was paid weekly every Friday in my job in 2009. I discovered today that I owe Revenue approx €400 for underpayment of tax in 09 (thanks to a very helpful staff member in Revenue). I was paid a flat weekly wage with no variations, therefore my take home pay was static - tax was deducted at the same rate throughout. My employer went in receivership towards the end of the year & I was retained by the Receivers who paid my wages & issued my P60 on the same rate. They noted 52 weeks on my P60 & not 53 (which is what the nice lady in Revenue thinks might have caused my underpayment on the system)

Over Christmas, I was entitled to full paid holidays, but my take home dropped hugely & I vaguely remember being told it was because of an extra week's tax but it would all come out in the wash.

So, where do I stand? I'm fairly clueless about payroll & how it works re. tax. I have emailed the Receivers asking for urgent clarification but as yet have had no response.

PM me the numbers on your P60 & last payslip and I can take a look at it for you if you wish

After a few emails, it's been solved! The Receiver failed to take my pension contributions into account when preparing my P60, so that's why Revenue have me listed as underpaying tax. They've reissued my P60 & hopefully Revenue will send me off my Med 1 refund soonest.

Thanks for the help!

Our payday is weekly on friday's also and yes 2009 was a 52 week year as 1st of Jan was a friday, if we were paid on thursdays like most people we would have had a 53 wk year.
