I was paid weekly every Friday in my job in 2009. I discovered today that I owe Revenue approx €400 for underpayment of tax in 09 (thanks to a very helpful staff member in Revenue). I was paid a flat weekly wage with no variations, therefore my take home pay was static - tax was deducted at the same rate throughout. My employer went in receivership towards the end of the year & I was retained by the Receivers who paid my wages & issued my P60 on the same rate. They noted 52 weeks on my P60 & not 53 (which is what the nice lady in Revenue thinks might have caused my underpayment on the system)
Over Christmas, I was entitled to full paid holidays, but my take home dropped hugely & I vaguely remember being told it was because of an extra week's tax but it would all come out in the wash.
So, where do I stand? I'm fairly clueless about payroll & how it works re. tax. I have emailed the Receivers asking for urgent clarification but as yet have had no response.
