1st time to Tenerife - which area / hotel rec?

Hi all,
flying in to Teneriefe South the end of July and looking for advice / peoples experiences as to which area or resort and hotel you may recommend.

Both early 30's, would prefer hotel on / near beach and near some bars and restuarants but not 'clubland' either. We are open to travelling anywhere on the Island so all advice welcome, thanks.

I would recommend the newer end to Playa de las Americas, towards Los Cristianos. I was there in January and had been there before. I have also recommended it to various friends and they keep on going back there.

We usually stay in the Parque Santiago 3. The complex is on the beach and is just beautiful.

This area is definitely not club-land, but there are plenty bars and restaurants about. If you like fish, I recommend El Faro & Garibaldi's restaurants near to the apartments.

Also this area is very near to the airport and costs about 20 euro in a taxi.

I would also recommend a day-trip to the volcano Mount Teide. It's just fantastic. Try to get a full-day excursion rather than a half day.

It's just lovely around this part of Playa de las Americas. It has a very new and upmarket feel to it. As well, the beach in front of the apartments has 2 breakwaters, so there are no big waves. Makes it great for swimming there.

Not sure if you'd be into hiking or not but there are some lovely hikes in Tenerife.

We had a great time there in November with some spectacular scenery. There was one in particular - sorry cant for the life of me remember the name - that was like Macchu Picchu. You walked from the hills down to the cliffs.

Believe me, you really enjoy those beers and Spanish tapas when you've worked up an appetite!

I totally agree with JT Dublin above, this area in Tenerife is beautiful, it's the one holiday that I keep thinking back on and would love to go back this year (pregnant at the moment so debating it in my mind), the area is fab, I would recommend one of the "Iberostar" hotels, these are a subsidary of a spanish airline but there is a beautiful one by the sea in Los Cristianos and the beach there is def one of the best I've experienced. The food is also fab in Tenerife, it's def. one of the cheapest places we've been to for eating out and very good quality for what you're paying.

Been to the Costa Adeje area - Fanabe, three times and will go back again. Last visit was Easter this year. In my opinion its a much nicer area than Las Americas. Lovely beach, restaurants and beach front walks. There are lots of 5 star hotels and up market shopping in the area of el Duque, ten minutes walk from Fanabe.
Near water park and wild life park for the children.

Each time we have booked through Owners Direct. Last time we stayed in a one bed apartment. Nice pool with children's pool and lifeguard also kids club I couldn't believe the apartment was so well equipped. It is about 15 minutes walk to Fanabe beach, up hill on the way back. Nice quiet area. Five minutes walk from shopping center with big supermarket and restaurants.



On the same street as the Sol Beach complex there are some lovely restaurants providing beautiful reasonably priced food. Can't remember their names, sorry. Also lots of restaurants along the beach front walk.
To the best of my knowlege the prom walk from Adeje throught Las Americas and on to Los Cristonas is 8kms if you want to get fit. Lovely walk.

There are lots of four and five stat hotels in the Adeje area and I felt very save there.
Should you decide to go Enjoy.

I have stayed in Costa Adeje, the Gran Hotel is very upmarket almost too posh I found with doves in cages in the Reception area!!! However I would totally recommend staying in this area. Most hotels are all inclusive and many are out of the centre of Costa Adeje so check before you book on their location.

Having stayed in other areas of Tenerife Costa Adeje would be my favourite. My partner and I are in same age bracket as yourself, (OP)

Just got a quote from Apartmentsparquesantiago.com a management company based in England (they also go under the name of beach holiday ltd) for a week in The Parque Santiago in Tenerife 1 bed apartment - was quoted €2395 - I've emailed them back to see if its a joke!! I didn't say I wanted to buy one!

I think the best thing is to spend half your time in a hotel in the south around playa las americas and the rest of the time in puerto de la cruz.
With internet booking of hotels... this is imo the best option.
