i was wondering if it is possible for me and my girlfriend to apply for a mortgage, say we were sucessful in this.

Can just ONE of us sign for the house, so as to use up one of our first time buyers benefits while the other waits maybe to use theres later if you decided to move...

The bank (and possibly your solicitor?) may want both of your names on the deeds. This has been discussed here before.

You may also want to consider what happens if one of your names is on the deeds and your relationship breaks down.
