123.ie excess

When 123.ie say their standard excess is €4,000, is that on any type of claim? Is that not a complete rip off?

No. The insuer is XS Direct and it is aimed at higher risk drivers and cars for a lower premium that you would otherwise pay. For example, a 26 year old male could get insured on a Golf Gti for around €1,250 with XS Direct. Most other insuers wouldn't quote them, or the premium would be many times higher.

Is that what other people meant when they said beware the small print with those guys? Or is there more to it than that? Thanks

Not if they state the terms & conditions clearly up front it's not. In that case it may be expensive or bad value for money but not a rip-off.

You don't get a NCB, and other insuers may not take into account any time spent insuered with XS Direct when you go looking for quotes in the future.

I would only go near them if you want a high performance car and are willing to take your chances re. accidents and NCB foregone. There has been discussion of XS Direct on AAM and www.boards.ie before.

I'm presuming that you are a lady-are there not many more options available to you?

It suits drivers of cheapish high performance cars really.

A niche market.

It's still quite expensive, and even at that you still have to pay a significant excess on any claim.
