I LOVE painting walls and the OP's post is making me consider taking it up as a career! Up until last year (before extending) my kitchen was about 12' x 20' and I repainted it every 3 years in 1 day each time, including the 1 time it took 3 coats.
Every room in my house (4 beds, 2 bath, living, dining, kitchen, family room, utility, downstairs loo, hall stairs and landing) would be painted (by me) on a regular basis - it would be unusual for me to let a room go beyond 3 years without repainting it. For the average room I would pull all furniture in the middle, cover it, protect floor with old sheeting, apply masking tape to areas to be protected - edge to ceiling, light and socket surrounds, skirting boards and so on. Then I would edge paint, get out the paint pad or roller and by the time I got around the room the first bit of paint would nearly be dry, so have a cuppa and then do the same again. Room painted, just put furniture back in position. If I was really bothered I could easily repaint 2 rooms in 1 day.
On the basis of the above, the price of 6k is certainly at least twice what I would be prepared to pay. That said, if the OP has any youngish relations like a teenager who would like to earn a few bob, wall painting is not brain surgery, you just need to protect the areas you don't want to paint, plug in some good music and enjoy!
Disclaimer: none of what I have said applies to gloss painting which I hate with a passion and think anyone who is good at that deserves to be paid lots of money
