Bi-fold door

Hi there, we have a room where two doors open against either other and so they both get damaged. We are replacing all doors, so are thinking about Bi Fold.

How do bi-fold doors work for anyone? The only one we could see was in B&Q and was an MDF door so wouldn't match the others. So we thought we could buy a regular door and saw it down the middle and hinge it. Do you need a rail - if so top and bottom or would top only do? Is there any other way? A sliding door wouldn't really work as they, as far as I know, dont close tightly and it's a dining room/kitchen door, so would like to keep out cooking smelling/washing dryer noises to some degree.

Thanks.
