Travel Insurance with serious illness

I'm travelling to Australia and USA this year (Feb and July respectively) and I have a serious illness (cancer). I have absolutely no idea how this will effect travel insurance costs. Before I start ringing around various companies i thought I'd post here to try and get some personal input that'll help me decide on any options I get.

Have any AAMers any experience of travelling/insurance costs for someone in my sitution? (I should add that I don't have private insurance, just public with medical card). What insurers do it/are best at it? Ball-park cost involved? Can I get multiple-trip insurance? Any help/advice/feedback appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your illness and best of luck with your recovery.

Maybe the specialist companies listed here will be able to help?

Sorry to hear about your illness. You might find it helpful to visit an insurance broker and ensure you have specific questions at the ready. If your questions are not answered clearly (and in writing repeat and in writing) go elsewhere.

Dont accept "here are our terms and conditions" usually provided in the small print. Get easy to understand terms (not easy!). The amount of cover (if any) will probably be subject to a medical report, the amount of time spent abroad, etc.

Also, when you are visiting your broker/insurance company, bring somebody to witness your application.

[I tried to send a Private Message to you without success].

Cheers, Leper. I think best bet is to visit broker all right. Too much chasing around otherwise. I got some good contact stuff on the irish Cancer Society webpage too. Thanks also, ACA, but the link is more UK-related, I think.

I found [broken link removed] when I searched a bit more thoroughly...hope it's more useful
