my fridge freezer at home is totally frozen with ice on the freezer part. obviously i have to do something about it , but i was wondering would it have any bearing on my ESB bill having it like this. thanks
Compared to running it so that it does not ice up? Yes. Probably set to too high a cooling setting or the thermostat is gone wonky or it is not sealed properly.
While you're at it - defrost it, see if the thermostat is too high or might not be working and clean the back of the unit (e.g. lightly hoover any dust from the radiator at the back of the fridge).
Or maybe it just needs to be defrosted. A regularly defrosted fridge/freezer will cost less to run than one clogged up with ice. Still a good idea to clean the back/radiator of the device once a year or so. This also improves efficiency and extends the life of the unit.
