Volvo timing belt questions

Hi,

- Can anyone recommend an independent Volvo specialist (rather than a Volvo dealer) to change a timing belt in an S40 - in South Dublin area.

- Can anyone tell me what they've paid for the above work, either from an independent, or a Volvo dealer?

Thanks.

There's a crowd donw near Holles Street D2, are experts on Volvos but do not charge Main dealer prices. I learned of them a bit too late so have not used them (my car (99S40) is basically a heap of crap now so I'm getting rid if I can get a couple of hundred for it. My brother in law is a big volvo fan and has enthused about the IVS near D2 Their number is 016791783.
BTW I got my timing belt changed at a garage in Stillorgan, and total cost was approx 750 euro (even though the belt itself only cost about 40 euro!)

Thanks amgd28.

Was 750 for belt & service, or just belt?

Was that a main dealer or independent ?

It was with Kingswood motors in Stillorgan. the total bill was 1350, I just extracted out the costs of timing belt. If I had heard about IVS before that, I would have gone with them as I reckon it would have been done much cheaper (only basing this on anecdotal hearsay though!)

No point telling me now!!
Seriously, I thought I was being ripped off alright, but I think like most people, I haven't a clue about cars, and most garages appear to play on this and load on the costs. A customer is relatively helpless in this situation. If I knew a garage I could trust I'd stick with them, and in some ways this is why I am getting rid of the old car and buying a new Volvo S40 Flexifuel - at least its going to be under warranty, and relatively little service costs in the next couple of years..

thats crazy money for that work, you could get the lot done for half that money.

Are you speaking from experience, or is that hearsay?

If you've had the same work done, on the same car, please feel free to recommend a garage with lower prices.

The crowd near Holles Street is called IVS (independent volvo specialists), used them myself for a service so can't tell too much, or try Greenmount motors at the harolds cross bridge, would definitely recommend them as knowing what they are on about and good to deal with (but can be difficult to get on the phone)
