    loveholidays - any views?

Used them last year to go for a long weekend to Lisbon. Worked out fine and I'd use them again. I had cause to talk to them as my prepaid credit card wouldn't work online, but they sorted it straight away.

Health Insurance Keeping a child and young adult in the system for minimal cost

We have our adult children on VHI PublicPlus Care Day to Day. It's basic, cheap and they can claim a few euro back on gp, dentist and optician as far as I know. We are with laya but vhi worked out cheaper for them.

Renew with Vodafone - will price increase in April

That's what I'm thinking will happen on renewal as I was paying €40 for the past few years and was told last year I was getting this dongle for a year free. I said I didn't want it but that didn't seem to be an option. I'll have no issue switching if they try to charge me.

Want to sell a jointly owned inherited farm, but my sister wants to keep it

Wow, she has some cheek if the farm was left to you both. Tell her it's not an option to change the will of a deceased person so adding the kids into the mix is not even possible. Point out that she is effectively asking you to give her kids money, that it won't be from their grandparent. If...

Renew with Vodafone - will price increase in April

Is this just for broadband service? I have been paying €40 this past year. They insisted on sending a new modem and a dongle at last renewal, despite me saying I didn't want either. Both are still in their boxes. No idea what the idea was as our service is fine. If they are offering broadband...

    Ensuite mould

We've tried everything. When we tiled over the vent we put a fan in the ceiling into the attic. The velux is open all day. We've painted the ceiling twice with zinsser paint. Right now it's a flaky mess again. It's going on years at this point and we are now looking at getting pvc for the ceiling.

Small benefit exemption - gift card recommendations

We've used Allgo the past couple of years. They can be used anywhere you can use MasterCard, be it instore or online. The cards don't have a PIN which did pose a problem in Spain where the restaurants machines asked for a PIN. This can be over ridden but they didn't want to know. Shops there...

    College Living Expenses

We gave our son €55 per week to cover food for the week and bus home for weekend. His social life was his responsibility to pay for. €30 in Aldi was enough to cover food for 4 days. A bag of pasta would do a couple of weeks depending on how many days he'd eat it, rice and chips the same. He'd...

    Private swimming lessons for child

Will do Bronte. I remember years ago when the older son was getting lessons, the kids were all in the pool before the instructor came in to the pool area. Parents were sat at the side chatting. Next thing you know the instructor comes running towards the pool, dives in and pulls out one of the...

    Private swimming lessons for child

Aw I hope it goes well for him. Good idea above about practicing in the bath with goggles, and blowing bubbles under the water. My daughter had many lessons with 2 different swim schools. She didn't progress much at all. I took her out, got her one to one age 11 and she flew it. She surfs now...

Joint Bank Account with Elderly Parent

I did this with my parent - opened a joint account and had his weekly pension paid into it. I kept a spreadsheet of every cent going in and out with an explanation of what every amount was for - be it clothes, food shopping or bills. None of the money in the account was mine. However, when...

    First Communion time !

We'd give €50 to a niece or nephew. Other than that if I was giving a card to a good friend's child (outside of my kids classmates) I'd give €20. Our kids classes didn't give cards to each other thankfully, so we never felt the need to give anything to their classmates. If that had been a...

    Prepaid Financial Services Ireland

An employee has given an IBAN containing PFSR. I've never seen it before and googling it leads to Prepaid Financial Services. It seems to be a prepaid credit card. Would anyone know if it is a suitable account to have a salary paid into?

    Switching electricity providers this year?

Out of contract with Energia today. We had 41% discount which was brilliant. Not sure how a previous poster is remaining on that rate out of contract. I rang them and the best they would do is a 10% unit discount price, bringing it down to .40. Flogas called to the door and offered .39 fixed...

Comfortable empty nesters. What should we do next?

My mother in law bought us white goods over 20 years ago. It was such a bonus for us starting out, with not much to spare after buying the house. Paddy1962 you are in a very fortunate financial position and I'm sure your children will be thrilled if you decide to help them out now. We were...

Health Insurance VHI renewal for 2 adults & 4 children

Have a look at VHI PublicPlus Care Day to Day. It gives €20 x 3 visits back on gp and same for non emergency dental and it's cheaper than enhanced care 350. I have one adult son on enhanced care 350 but am switching him over. Daughter is now 18 and I'm moving her from Laya to VHI PublicPlus Care...
