    Mortgage interest rate measures

Is it up to €500k only? So if you have a mortgage of €510k you don’t qualify?

    Landlord incentives

I’ve two properties rented, one to a HAP tenant, both leases have expired. Both in RPZ paying well under market rate. I was waiting on the budget to see if it was worth my while hanging onto them. Tenants will be served with notice by Friday and they’ll be put up for sale within 6 months.

Landlords to receive an extra €600 income.

The exodus continues so. Todays Indo… “Meanwhile landlords will received tax relief at the 20pc standard rate on a proportion of their rental income – once they agree to keep their properties on the market. It could see the first €3,000 of €10,000 income become sheltered under 20pc relief -...

    Biomass investment

A “financial advisor” in the Irish sense. Basically someone who’s selling commission based investment products under the guise of impartial professional advice.

    Biomass investment

Reviving this thread as my guess is the investment being discussed here is currently before the the courts. The promoter is trying to avoid a wind up where investors will only receive a return of 11% of their original investment. Best case scenario it seems is a “possible” return of up to 80%...

Can my employer change the bonus/commission model however and whenever they want?

Bit late here but a colleague took an unfair dismissal over a sales compensation plan he felt was structured unfairly. The company came to a compromise agreement and he left with a couple of hundred grand.

Divorce…Negotiating a settlement between us to present to Solicitor … Advice please.

Sounds like you’re getting a great deal and don’t realise it. Why should you get 70% of the family home? He needs some proper legal advice and go after your pension and part share of your other property like he’s entitled to. Also don’t get caught up focusing on his holidays and clothes...

    Water coming from somewhere, insurance

Update; Found the cause, internal water pump (located in utility room) for showers with small leak on the bottom. The tile underneath the water pump had a gap in the grout exactly under the leak stopping the water from pooling causing it to go unnoticed. Probably caused 2K worth of damage...

    Water coming from somewhere, insurance

Noticed mushrooms growing from under skirting board on the outside wall recently in our utility room. There’s significant dampness building up from under the wall. Had plumber in investigating the usual suspects. As it’s a wooden house he cut away the plaster board. Still can’t find the source...

Can anyone recommend a decent company / sole trader to upgrade attic insulation in North County Dublin? Standard Rockwool or blown insulation would be fine.

App to self manage S&P 500 tracker

You could invest in a stock like Berkshire Hathaway which may as well be an ETF given it’s spread and pay tax at the lower rate on gains.

My wife works in an industry hard hit by COVID, her roster is sporadic (worked 8 days this year) and she has been in receipt of part time jobseekers (€203 pw) for the weeks she doesn't work. Social Welfare now want to means test us, I have had a look at the form they sent her and while things...

Eoin McGee: "It doesn't make financial sense to pay off your mortgage."

Just a real world example of how this strategy has paid off. Back in 2006 I had a 30 year .5% tracker interest only mortgage of 900k, mad stuff for both me and the bank. I lost my job in '09 but continued to make payments and got myself back up and running. I've had some pretty bleak times with...

First world problem but are Revenue sticklers...

Pepper / Danske Mortgage Buy-Out & Deals to be done?

Having heard nothing at all from Pepper for many years other than a yearly statement of mortgage interest I received a communication in December from them requesting details of how I intended paying off the full capital amount off in 15 years. They outlined a number of multiple choice options...
