    New BOI 'EcoSaver' Mortgage

I think we're starting to see a trend in which they may have seen the error of their ways - in January 2023 they gave existing customers a better rate change than new customers: https://www.askaboutmoney.com/threads/bank-of-ireland-increases-fixed-rates-again-jan-2023.230032/ I would see this...

Trade Republic launching a debit card with 1% cashback

T&Cs on their German site have this limited to €15 a month. Interesting to see what limit they put here. I'm already getting €12 a month cashback from Avant, but probably have enough runaway spending to spread between both. Does anyone know offhand what the stamp duty implications are for a...

Using AIB Credit Card as Interest Free Cash Loan

In the past, I used this to maximise my Cashback from KBC's credit card. I paid off the CC every month, so never paid interest. I would wonder does the merchant code used by Google/Apple Pay (which is what thr Revolut top ups appear as to the AIB CC) count towards the Cashback scheme that AIB...

    Interesting data on cyclists' injuries

As a regular cyclist my last 'falls' have been from: A stone the size of a mug that I hadn't seen - wounded pride & grazes. New bike with brake levers opposite to normal, cost one broken finger. Pedestrian jumping out in front of me without looking, broken elbow for me. Skidding on a smooth...

Understanding what went wrong during the BoI online/ATM glitch

Agreed there is more to it with front ends going down as well. The front ends could have been brought down by the volume of customers checking them, BOI appear to have a DDOS service in front if them which could have started dropping the traffic. Alternatively it could have been a wider issue...

Understanding what went wrong during the BoI online/ATM glitch

The online/mobile user interface is merely a front door that customers access. The problems would have been in the back end systems, which is where the payment authorisations relating to card transactions come into it. The front end systems likely would have slowed at first, struggling to get a...

Understanding what went wrong during the BoI online/ATM glitch

People wouldn't need to use BOI ATMs in this scenario, I'm fairly sure I saw a clip doing the round of Gardai standing in front of ATMs from a number of banks. The focus would have been on BOI ATMs, as people saw the underlying issue was a BOI one, but ultimately, the 'free money' could be...

Understanding what went wrong during the BoI online/ATM glitch

People could have also paid off other Credit Cards e.g. AvantCard using the same process. Anything that used a POS payment I guess. The money never actually needed to be taken out of an ATM, people just did so, I would imagine, because they feel in control of it.

Understanding what went wrong during the BoI online/ATM glitch

This. What likely happened is that BOI had a systems failure causing their payment processor (Total Systems?) to activate STIP - STand In Processing. While in STIP, the payment processor might authorise transactions up to a certain limit agreed between BOI and the processor, in this case...

AVC Last Year to old PRSA

Was employed with a company until late 2021, had an Irish Life PRSA which during the employment, I paid into along with employer. Left that company late 2021, became proprietary director (s class) contractor - did not setup a new pension. Did not pay into a pension during 2022 or at all in 2023...

Court imposes 2.5% fixed for 25 years on Pepper as part of a PIA

Doesn't it though? In theory, most of the mortgages sold to 'Vultures' are distressed aren't they? So many others may look at the PIA process and think, "maybe there's a better rate there for me?". If others follow, then if I'm a Vulture fund, then I'm going to look hard at the price I pay a...

    Revolut wants PPS number

I've dismissed their reminder on this for over three years. They can't on one hand say they need the information, but on the other hand allow me to consume their service without this information for years. Just another fine example of Revolut's approach to compliance I guess?

Switching Mortgage out of UB as of Late September/October

Just as an update, I was fortunate enough to be able to make contact with a very kind & helpful staff member in UB. They arranged for another copy of the redemption figure letter to be issued. They checked in regularly through the end of last week, updating me on the status on the UB side, and...

Switching Mortgage out of UB as of Late September/October

The last email I have from UB relating to my mortgage is from Dec 2021: I am not 100% sure I received a letter giving any further update - away from the home at the moment, and have received many such letters in recent months - KBC CA,CC,Saver, UB Mortgage,CA,CC,Saver. Given that they emailed...

Switching Mortgage out of UB as of Late September/October

Anyone else in the same boat? Solicitor requested redemption fee over a week ago, nothing yet. When they called to query it, solicitor's office hit a UB 'triage' service - they are screening all requests rather than getting through to normal mortgage support teams. This triage service will...

Be careful about forging salary certs when applying for a mortgage

https://www.thejournal.ie/fake-documents-to-secure-270k-mortgage-4920286-Dec2019/ Somewhat similar, this man forged CU statements to show savings, and was presumably at best working cash in hand, 2 years suspended, but different in that he was living in the house with partner & child, which the...
