Dan O'Brien: mortgage rates should be capped

Good article, considering the amount of people with variable mortgages and the outrage over the tracker mortgages it may be a good time to renew the campaign. I think its an interesting approach Brian Hayes is taking in asking to EU to see if there is a cartel with the banks in this country and...

Is it legal for AIB to now control EBS as they were meant to be two pillar banks ?

Thanks for the reply, sorry when i say joining them together I mean AIB and EBS together with BOI as the other pillar bank. My point here is that when AIB bought EBS for 1 Euro was there any thought for the implications of what that might mean for the mortgage holders in EBS now that AIB decide...

Is it legal for AIB to now control EBS as they were meant to be two pillar banks ?

Now that were out of the crash is it legal that AIB can control EBS variable rates as the intention of Noonan joining them together was to make two pillar banks ? In fact AIB are not competing with EBS but are controlling what rates they can set so why have two banks with State funding...

Transcript of Governor Honohan's comments on mortgage rates to the Oireachtas Finance Committee

Thanks for the transcript, Brendan, but I don't see any movement on this other than Honohan's circular argument. He has admitted that we own the banks but are currently powerless to stop them ripping of their customers.

Fergal Quinn's bill to control mortgage rates

Its a start and interesting to see what happens. How long does it take a bill like that to become law though ? In the meantime everyone involved in this should continue to keep lobbying until we have this law passed.

General discussion of the issue (removed from public meeting thread)

I wrote to Brian Hayes MEP and in fairness to him he came back straight away with a reply. What he is looking to do is to get the ECB to take over the trackers. Can't see this happening, though it makes some sense, but thought I would post it for info. I'm actually doing quite a lot at the...

I am arranging a public meeting on the SVR issue...

I am also willing to attend. This is a huge disgrace by both the banks and the Government in their treatment of ordinary mortgage holders. I am on a mortgage of 210.000 over 30 years and looking at the figures it looks like I am paying an extra 350 a month ! This is pure robbery. A protest...

"Central Bank washes its hands over interest rates"

I think Charlie is one of the few in the media who is regularly highlighting this issue. As a variable rate customer with what was or is EBS (AIB) I am maddened by the response of our Government and the Central Bank allowing variable rate customers to be gouged so badly and for so long by the...
