    Stardust and State Apology

The Journal gives more context: In the initial tribunal of inquiry in 1981, the cause of the fire was deemed to be unknown but that it was likely to have been started deliberately. This presumption was heavily disputed but it was not until 2009 that a tribunal rejected it and had the finding of...

    Stardust and State Apology

The State failed to investigate the fire properly first time around, seems to be the general consensus. The verdict delivered recently, should have been delivered 40 years ago & had it been done then more timely \ appropriate consequences could have been enforced on those culpable. Hard to say...

Things that used to be illegal in Ireland

The one day of the year people had to show a bit of forward planning or ingenuity to get a drink - ferry trips, greyhound racing etc - gone :(

"more than 200 restaurants and cafes have shut this year"

Working from home has \ will impact it. Also the moving out of work from the city centre to business parks. If you are working in town or close to it, would be spending a lot more on lunches, dinners in the area.

Accidentally exceeded permitted duty free alcohol limit

What happens if you are over the limit and stopped by customs? Do you need to pay duty then on the lot?

Health Insurance VHI to scrap Health Plus (Plan B) from 1st May 2024

Seems like those who were on that plan for long time have now been given a reason to overcome the inertia, and in many cases leave VHI. Is it a move by VHI to try to shed some older customers? Or am I being too cynical and it is a move in the right direction re: simplification of plans.

Health Insurance Vhi Health Plus Extra V Laya Simplicity how do I compare benefits?

This is a side by side comparison of the two plans from the HIA site. There are more\higher excesses on Simplicity, for in patient and everyday medical expenses. Knee replacement would count as an existing condition, so for any upgrade in cover, waiting periods may apply...

Electric Cars - a ridiculous product

Yes, they're not for everyone. Not ridiculous per se, but it would be ridiculous for some people to buy them.

    Neutrality

And this was one of the ways the Russians \ communists went about securing their tyranny over Poland... and no doubt Russia has similar plans for Ukraine if it falls. And others if it gets to them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyn_massacre

    Is ISIS-K funded by America?

I wonder if the 24th being the big day now there is a way of distancing it from pagan times: Dew Holiday or Rasos in Lithuanian is another name for Midsummer Day festival, usually frequented by those who are focused on preserving the authentic Baltic pagan traditions. Every year these “last...

    Is ISIS-K funded by America?

I'd question whether they are a Lithuanian who in a sporting contest between Russia & Lithuania, supports Russia...

    Neutrality

The Soviet system was setup to plunder Eastern Europe in the sense of directing its economic output to serve its ends - including so called Warsaw Pact and so called Soviet republics which were just colonies of Russia. We can see that Russia was plundering Poland etc by the collapse in Russian...

    Neutrality

Were they higher than in the Europeanized parts of Russia? Russia is a vast country. The Soviet system was setup to plunder Eastern Europe in the sense of directing its economic output to serve its ends - including so called Warsaw Pact and so called Soviet republics which were just colonies of...

    Neutrality

And let's not forget what Russia did with that 'peace' in Poland. They plundered Eastern Europe as a colony and manpower pool with which to threaten Western Europe and the world. That is Russia's plan for Ukraine too. Look at how it conscripted those in the annexed regions to send as cannon...

Is there a medication dispensing charge?

I hadn't experienced it when I was using Pure Pharmacy. Am now with Lloyds on DPS scheme and not something I see them pushing in my branch. I remember reading media articles about it, maybe they have toned it down since then.

Mary-Lou "United Ireland is within touching distance"

I'd imagine EU will have its hands full with the cost of the war in Ukraine, and then hopefully at some point rebuilding and getting Ukraine EU ready ... that'll be a much higher priority than NI.

Mary-Lou "United Ireland is within touching distance"

Seems relevant here: A UNITED IRELAND would cost €20 billion every year for 20 years according to a new research paper by the Institute of International and European Affairs think-tank... The researchers suggest that there would be a “dramatic increase” in taxation of around 25% across the...
