Degiro vs TD investing vs Interactive brokers fees

You'll also need to look at the margin each broker take for converting your currency to USD say if you want to buy US stocks. I believe Degiro are cheaper than TD for this

    Expense Ratios

HI, Every article and every message board on the internet in relation to ETFs will tell you to select ETFs with low expense ratios. I'm just wondering, do the returns quoted by an ETF already include the expense ratios deducted or how does it work?. Thanks

Ryanair EGM and B Share Choices

So, it seems I've paid 15% as this is the Dutch rate for dividends (withholding agent is Degiro BV in the Netherlands). Very confused as to why they've done this

Ryanair EGM and B Share Choices

I'm not really sure what has happened in my Degiro account. It's showing "Dividend .2942 x 100 shares" and underneath "Dividend tax .0441 x 100 shares" which is subtracted from the first amount. Cash funds haven't changed either but I presume this might not happen until the dispatch of cheques...

Can I combine the 8 Year roll-up tax on EFT's

Well, certainly for the disposal of shares under CGT, the first in first out rule applies so I imagine the same rule exists for exit tax http://www.revenue.ie/en/personal/buy-sell/shares.html#section3

Can I combine the 8 Year roll-up tax on EFT's

Hi landlord, Thanks for the helpful info around the payment of tax on ETFs. I disposed of some shares in an ETF a few months ago so am due to pay tax on the gain at 41% this year. However all of the forms on revenue.ie are related to 2014 still? I assume the forms will be updated closer to...

Irish Life Funds vs ETF investing

I read the article today, wouldn't bother picking it up to be honest. Seemingly there is some clarification on taxation being written by the Revenue currently but other than that it doesn't feature any new information.

    Currency Hedged ETFs

Very interesting article recently published about them here which discusses how they are on the rise, particularly in these times of uncertainty around currency exposure...

I took the plunge with ETFs

Just a note on that, as ETFs are not taxed under the CGT system you won't qualify for any annual tax free allowances. They are taxed under 'exit tax'.

Funding broker account with usd/foreign currency

I think I will set up a currency deposit account with AIB in USD for funding. I can use transfermate to get around the FX charges when moving money from my current account into it and vice versa. I'll give it a shot and see how the charges work out.

Funding broker account with usd/foreign currency

It seems you are correct! I got a response from TD Direct quoted below. Does anyone know of an alternative broker that does do not have such restrictions? I see Saxo charge 2% commission on FX (same as TD Direct)

Funding broker account with usd/foreign currency

Ok thanks for that. I started the process of opening a transfermate account and hopefully I can just make transfers to it with my visa debit card in Euro and then convert to USD and go from transfermate to TD Direct.

Funding broker account with usd/foreign currency

Hi guys, I'm looking to fund a TD Direct account with USD (for investment in US stocks) from my AIB current account. AIB says they can do this but there's a transaction limit of 5,000 USD per day and it's 15 euro per transfer plus I'll probably be charged FX conversion fees as my AIB account is...

Irish Life Funds vs ETF investing

I have given much thought to my options over the last few months and finally reached a conclusion that shares might indeed be the best option for someone that wants to make better use of a lump sum of cash and have occasional top ups to their investment. Berkshire Hathaway has been mentioned...

Irish Life Funds vs ETF investing

I had a quick question regarding the CGT annual exemption of €1,270. As I understand it, this can be used against gains made on share disposals. However, this doesn't apply to ETFs as they are not taxable under CGT?

Irish Life Funds vs ETF investing

Yep I've read that thread. I'm coming back around to my original ETF plan, which will probably just involve 3 or so accumulating global ETFs, declare the purchase in a form 11 and sit on them for a few years, hoping that exit tax rates come down :), adding to the investment once a year with...
