    Car accident compensation

I can’t advise on what to expect other than what is in the PIAB guidance, but I recently dealt with the PIAB and was very happy with the outcome. I didn’t use a solicitor but I’d say I’m in the minority. I didn’t exaggerate my injuries and tried to engage as openly as possible on everything and...

New Kitchen-Full payment request prior to installation

I had my kitchen installed by Kitchen World in 2019. I remember being uncomfortable with this policy but the company had been recommended by a reliable builder. Thankfully there were no issues (other than a few minor niggles that were sorted). Can you pay by card? They offer some protection.

    Give Eir a second chance

I also moved to Eir last year and was very nervous about it because of their reputation. While there were a few hiccups at the start I found their customer service good and got my issue sorted quickly. The wait to get through the first time I called was excessive but when I tried calling at a...

Dolphin Trust collapse - Wealth Options broker

Can the FSPO do anything if it was an unregulated product? “..case also throws into focus the risk entailed in the market for loan notes, an unregulated investment product used in this case and which has proliferated in recent years on the Irish commercial property scene.”

    Health Insurance Health insurance excess

Thanks for that its a bit clearer to me now. I went back to look at my policy documents again and it seems that to calculate the excess of €100 they use the amount I would have received as a benefit had the expense been eligible.I never understood that this was the way it was done. I had...

    Health Insurance Health insurance excess

I recently put in a claim for day to day expenses for my children for dental visits. They are entitled to €20 for one visit. They had previously been to the dentist but as they hadn’t reached the day to day excess at that point they weren’t entitled to the benefit, however this time whilst the...

Financial advice: what's regulated and what's not?

Steven, Do you not think that the paperwork is actually beneficial for intermediary as well as the consumer. It is an audit trail of how a decision to recommend a particular product was arrived at. If a client is unhappy with the performance of an investment and takes a case against you, you...

Public hospital patients with insurance face double charge for same care - how do we avoid this ?

Why can't the health insurers refuse to pay these charges unless the person receives some sort of private treatment? I would have thought that collectively they would have the power to make a stand. Alternatively they should offer plans that don't cover private treatment in a public...

    Mice in walls. Please help.

I literally put them just inside the entrance to the attic. They smell the bait. I didn't find any droppings in the house but I have a few of those ultrasonic things plugged in around the house so they may not have come out of the walls. I wouldn't recommend getting a cat... I did a few years...

    Mice in walls. Please help.

Hey We had mice in the walls & could hear them in the floor boards between upstairs and downstairs. We put a few traps in the attic with Recees peanutbutter cups on them. We caught about 4 mice and haven't heard anything since. Its very stressful I hope you get it sorted.

Laya When is a day case not a day case?

I had this procedure done in the mater private last year. It was classed as a side room procedure. My statement of benefits (vhi) lists side room and day case separate to in patient cover. I was only charged the side-room excess. Did you get a procedure code from the hermitage? Maybe check that...

    Ulster Bank Mortgage Contracts

Sorry but the OP said he knew he was giving up the right to revert to a tracker rate in his second post on the thread. It just seems strange that someone who acknowledges that they knew the implications of signing a document which amended the terms of their contract now feels vindicated in...

    Ulster Bank Mortgage Contracts

I'm very surprised to see that people who were aware they were giving up their tracker rate now have that rate reinstated. How can a bank be accused of misleading a customer particularly where they explained the implications to a customer prior to the new agreement.

    Health Insurance Renewal advice

hi snowyb My parents health insurance is up for renewal on 20 Jan. They are currently on Health Plan 05 with Irish Life. Would PMI 44 16 be a good alternative if day-to-day cover wasn't important? Do you know how long the waiting period would be for the increase in benefit for full cover for...

Advice needed re cancellation of holiday booking for hen party

If you have proof that the company didn't issue you the T&C's you should get back on to the company and fight your corner. Tell them that you were not advised of the condition before booking and that you would not have booked with them had you known. I can understand that the company may be at a...
