Work from home allowance paid by employer

Wasn't looking to start an argument, as I said I'm pretty clueless about these things and was curious as to how the person's normal place of business would be their home when they would have worked at the client site 5 days per week if it wasn't for Covid. Anyway thanks for your help.

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Forgive my ignorance on this but I don't see how the normal place of business would be the person's home. Up until Covid they would always work at the client site. The client has started bringing people back to the office in the latter half of this year and it's possible the person will be back...

Work from home allowance paid by employer

The company has one client and under normal circumstances would work 5 days / 40 hours per week at the client site, but sicnce Covid the work is being done from home.

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Ok thanks. Just to point out that in post #4 @DB74 states "I don't think you can claim the allowance if the normal place of business for the employee is the employee's home." However the normal place of business isn't the employee's home, it's the office of the end client they're working for.

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Ah ok, well it's not obvious to me as I don't really know a huge amount about all this :) So is a proprietary director not treated as an employee if they're taking a normal PAYE monthly salary from the company? Afaik they're entitled to the small benefit exemption as an employee, so would they...

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Thanks but not sure what you mean by false premise, maybe you could clarify?

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Thanks, the company's registered office is different to the home address and light / heat / internet has never been claimed from the company. So is it either or - i.e. either the employee claims the expenses from the company or the company pays an "un-vouched" allowance?

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Still haven't found a good answer on this. To simplify the question, can an employer pay the 3.20 per day (or max 768 per year) wfh allowance to an employee, similar to the small benefit exemption?

Work from home allowance paid by employer

If the employer doesn't pay the €3.20 allowance then the employee can claim a credit via their personal tax return using the calculation mehtoid, you can't have both - Yes that's my understanding. I guess my question is can the EUR 768 per year be paid by the company to the employee without...

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Yes afaik, the employee has been working from home for the past 3 years. I think my confusion is coming from different things I'm reading, whether the company can just pay the employee the EUR 768 or if the employee has to tot up all their bills with the appropriate calculation and claim it...

Work from home allowance paid by employer

Hi, quick question re the wfh allowance payable by an employer. If a person is for example an IT contractor with a one person limited company, and is an employee of that company being paid a normal salary, can the company pay the employee the EUR 3.20 per day wfh allowance as a one off payment...

    My garden and me

So just an update on this for anyone that's interested. I got a friend to replace the decking with paving slabs which turned out well, and I got the trees cut down to size so they're pretty low now and much better looking. I also dumped the pallets and other bits that were cluttering up the...

    My garden and me

So I tackled some of the trees at the end yesterday after buying an extendable pole trimmer. It made a bit of a dent but not much. After looking at the decking again I think it's gone past replacing some of the boards.. the whole lot will have to go. So some questions after realising this and...

    My garden and me

Some great post and suggestions here so thanks. To answer some of the questions: - I'm planning to do the work myself over the summer, hopefully with a bit of help from here and youtube I'll get it to a stage I'm happy with. - The house is east facing so the garden would be west facing. The...

    My garden and me

Ok so I've arrived at a point where a job needs to be done on my garden, and not just a bit of tweaking here and there, more of a major overhaul. I've come to the end of my tether with it and have slowly realised I'm not much of a gardener, and try as I might I just can't get the time or the...

Person renting room in house refusing to move out

On mature reflection, and after checking my diary, I now see that I have been staying in the house one night per week since early last year. This girl moved in to the house on March 15th, and a friend of hers on April 1st. Both are long haul cabin crew and are away from the house a few nights...

Person renting room in house refusing to move out

So I have a 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom house in Dublin that's registered as my PPR and the bills are in my name. There are 4 people in the house and I rent each bedroom individually to people for short or long term, and they share the kitchen and cleaning of the common spaces etc. I was living...
