Case study Pension Retirement options & Costs

I am about to retire. Mercer, who hold my DC fund, have given me the usual options of ARF, Annuity or combo of same. I guess I'll ask Zurich, Irish Life etc. for quotes. Also, DAVY was suggested - they advise, set up the pension, and manage. Another thought is allocating a portion to property...

Case study Have I enough to retire now ?

OMG, what are you saying? That just because one would have a reasonably good occupational pension that they might not honor the contributory old age pension, eventhough one has fully paid up all required contributions?

Retiree seeks advice on Investing lump-sum savings

Thanks all; yes, I have maximised pension contributions in recent years; my pension value today is €700k and is in conservative mixed funds. Also, have enough PRSI contributions for contributory pension. Will likely retire within 2022. Yes, will read more of the threads here. My risk aversion /...

Retiree seeks advice on Investing lump-sum savings

Am in early 60's & about to retire; was made redundant 7 years ago; am in a lower paying job since mid-2017; have a modest occupational pension (DC) that I hope not to trigger for several more years; of course, I will also have the state contributory pension, at 66, P.G! I have large cash...

BoI account emptied via a text scam

Actually we do have a CHARGEBACK dialogue ongoing with the Bank but it is in a bit of a cul de sac as the other party (the "Merchant") is not identifiable. We didnt initiate this - we just received a letter from BoI Chargeback.

BoI account emptied via a text scam

Actually the amount taken was a little bit LESS than the balance, €2890 taken vs a balance of €2959 and they did indeed highlight this amount BEFORE account/card credentials were provided so we did ask the bank how was it that it seemed the fraudster knew the balance in the account.

BoI account emptied via a text scam

€2890 was taken (account balance was €2958). She got a text, looking like from BoI, saying there was suspicious activity on her account and to click "this link" to accept or reject the transaction. She clicked! She then got a screen asking her to accept/reject the transaction for amount €2890...

BoI account emptied via a text scam

My daughter fell for lookalike BoI phishing text recently and had her account emptied, via a debit card transaction; the bank (Bank of Ireland) were informed within 10 minutes of it happening and after some initial assurances that they would take care of it, they later just said it was her own...

    State Saving Certificates

Odea, your prize bonds are doing well; I have €41k in prize bonds and have won 4x€50 in the past 12 months. Works out at 0.49%. I was certainly expecting a higher eturn so may pull out the funds soon if it doesn't improve.

What am I missing in my equity investments...

Thank you Sarenco; I just had one of the banks trying to sell me IL MABS with its 1.65% p.a. mngmnt fee, 1% gov levy and 41% tax on any gains. No thanks.

What am I missing in my equity investments...

Any thoughts on how I might generate a modest return (4% or 5%), relatively risk-free, on a 6-figure redundancy lump sum? I am in my late 50's, have 3 teenagers to put through college and am unlikely to get re-employed. I have a modest defined-contribution pension which I don't want to trigger...

    Tax on Saving deposits

Dear "Dub_Nerd" Thank you for that info, it is much appreciated. Indeed, it is unfair and I will lobby local TD but I wouldn't be holding out much hope.

    Tax on Saving deposits

If I have no other income other than deposit interest, on which DIRT is deducted, can I claim some refund of the DIRT for normal items such as medical expenses, medical insurance, etc.?

Refund of DIRT for medical expenses, etc?

If the only income I have is deposit interest, on which I pay DIRT, am I entitled to some refund of this DIRT for tax deductible items such as medical expenses, health insurance, etc.? Also, as I wouldn't be in the 40% tax bracket, would I be entitled to a refund?

SIPTU Jack wants something more progressive than USC

So Jack was a proponent of that disgraceful levy on private pensions? I wonder does Jack think it is fair that someone, such as myself, in my mid-50's, recently made redundant, with a modest defined contribution pension that I daren't touch for several more years, should have their pension...

Standard Life - Returning value to Shareholders (Sale of Canadian Companies)

Indeed you are correct. I thought that perhaps the share had appreciated a lot because of this but that is not really the case as they had been at the current price about two years ago. Nonetheless, I have voted for it.

30% of AVCs can be withdrawn for up to 3 years

Thank you for that reply, it is much appreciated!

30% of AVCs can be withdrawn for up to 3 years

I have recently become unemployed so I am considering availing of this 30% AVC draw-down (should be worthwhile as I am in a low tax bracket this year!). However, can somebody tell me if this would have any impact on the tax free lump sum that I would hope to draw down when I eventually retire?

    PRSI relief on pension contributions

I made a number of lump sum AVC contributions several years ago (2005, 2007, 2010) for which I did claim and received tax relief but not PRSI relief. Is it too late to claim it now?
