Pension tax relief - clarification on process

I recently got a promotion (Public Servant) resulting in just under €5k additional earnings per year, gross. If I was to put all of this additional money into a pension, would I then reduce my annual tax on my typical fortnightly take-home wages? Is this how it works? At present I am only...

    Good All-Inclusive in Canary Islands

Has anyone got any further recommendations? With the extreme heat in Europe this summer, I think Lanzarote is become a more attractive option. Hoping to travel in the second week of Easter holidays.

Thank you so much for all of the advice. I’ll have to crunch some numbers in the run up to renewal.

Health Insurance Alternative to Laya Simply Connect Plus - Family of 4

We are a family of 4. 2 kids and no plans to add to that number . No underlying conditions. We have been on this policy for years. Costing us the best part of €300 a month. Looking for a good alternative. Have day to day cover but it might not be the best use of our money as we thankfully...

    Home Security Providers

Brilliant, didn’t realise we could name suppliers. That’s good to know.

    Home Security Providers

Anecdotally, I know of some very disgruntled people who have video evidence of their very drunk other halves falling in the door at all hours. Ignorance is bliss sometimes, for everyone’s sake!

    Home Security Providers

Could you PM the details of the company you use? We are in North Kildare. I don’t fancy signing up to a package that is going to cost us close to €400 a year. We aren’t exactly dripping in valuables. My phone is probably as good as it gets.

    Home Security Providers

That’s really good to know. I wasn’t aware of this.

    Home Security Providers

We currently have a wired alarm system that we have not used for years. We have young kids and dogs so there’s always someone awake or not far off it. We are hoping to upgrade to a system that we can monitor from our phones. We don’t see the point in having new sensors fitted as what we have is...

Can we dispose of a car abandoned by former resident of apartment development?

Am I right in thinking that a car without registration plates can be removed by the council?

BOI existing customer, can’t avail of new customer rates

I found AIB’s mortgage portal so easy to use. Only for my own error regarding life assurance, we would have had it over the line very quickly.

    AVC query - public servant

I am 40 and I am considering starting AVC’s. I started teaching in 2006. Would you recommend Cornmarket (I’m a teacher) or are there other providers that you could recommend? Thanks in advance.

BOI existing customer, can’t avail of new customer rates

I think they are hoping people will find it too much hassle to switch. I switched to AIB from BofI recently, for the same reason.

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

AIB have a really good app for mortgage applications which was really user friendly. I could upload documents quickly and easily with minimal delays. Aside from the delay with the life assurance it was a pretty easy process.

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

To be honest, I didn’t actually start the ball rolling until late June so it wasn’t as slow as that. It took about 3 weeks to get the life assurance policy sorted though. We also get €2000 from AIB for switching. Thanks again for all your help!

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

I just wanted to pop on here to thank you for the advice you gave me regarding switching. Our switch took slightly longer than it should have as I foolishly applied for a switcher loan for a slightly longer term than our original loan. This meant I had to extend our life assurance policy with a...

ECB raises rates by 0.5% (July 2022)

How long before this rate is passed on to borrowers? I’m waiting to draw down. Not hopefully that we will escape a rise in rates.
