BoI charges to lodge € cheque drawn on foreign bank

"Foreign" euro cheques [i.e drawn on banks outside Ireland] have attracted negotiation charges since their inception in 2002. There is no central cross-border clearing system between banks in the euro zone. Hence the charge. This is not a new development.

    Home Insuring a music collection

Does anybody have any recommendations (aside from Aviva)? My policy is up for renewal. I have a sizeable collection of records, CDs and DVDs that I want to include as part of my home insurance contents policy. The entire collection is logged on various Excel spreadsheets. No one item is worth...

Banks Offer in relation to Ombudsman Appeal

I accept that OP provided a cessation date. The bank misread this and presumably set up a standing order without an end date (until further notice). Standing orders set up with an final payment date will not continue past that point.

Banks Offer in relation to Ombudsman Appeal

Sounds like the standing order was set up with no expiry / cessation date. Three subsequent payments were processed before your friend noticed. Looks like a genuine human error.

Mistake on Cheque €10 charge PTSB

It's a standard computer-generated "stop payment" charge. They probably can't stop it from being debited to your account. However they can refund it as a gesture of goodwill.

Bank is trying to defraud me!

Bizarre sequence of events. It's 2010 not 2000 - I find amazing to believe that the funds could have been drawn down in the absence of a signed loan agreement. Yerraboy's post about asking for "all personal information" does not mean that the bank will give you everything. They won't - as is...

    Canadian Dollars

Cheapest is to post a Canadian dollar bank draft to him. Shouldn't cost more than €3 - €4. Drawbacks - dependant on post, his bank may not let him draw against it straightaway. Otherwise an electronic transfer from your euro account to his bank account. Two day value. Commission will probably...

Bank adding on more payments to term loan

Were your payments made by standing order or direct debit? If it's the latter then they should vary with any changes to interest rates. Standing orders however must be manually amended by the Bank. They will not have the resources to change every single one of them every time there's an...

Charged for bounced cheque lodged to our account!

There is a charge for incoming unpaids (when you lodge a cheque that bounces) There is also a charge for outgoing unpaids (when a cheque that you write bounces). This is always higher. 12.70 in ROI on average but is £38 in NI.

Bank tried to stop me lodging a sole payee cheque to a joint account

The issue as I see it is the endorsement. An unendorsed cheque payable to Mr A and crossed account payee only should only be lodged to Mr A's sole account. However if Mr A endorses the cheque then it's a different ball game. It is permissable to lodge an endorsed account payee only cheque to a...

Euro Bank Draft - Drawn on Bank in Germany.

Euro drafts can be issued on all countries in the euro zone. Foreign drafts are issued on correspondent banks for all the major currencies. This has always been the case. Two bank officials sign the draft. They're not as popular / common as they were but nevertheless the service is still...
