Key Post "Overpaying my mortgage - should I reduce the term or the monthly repayment?"

We have decided to use our childrens allowance to overpay our mortgage and shorten the overall term of the mortgage. As we are on a fixed rate (3% for another 7yrs), the €300 overpayment is building up credit alongside our mortgage debt. Am I correct in saying that whilst this overall new...

Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

I need to purchase travel insurance and I'm tempted to take out an aer lingus credit card as it includes insurance as one of it's benefits and I don't think there is a minimum spend required in order to redeem benefits. We currently don't have or need a credit card so I would really be taking it...

Anfield tickets - where to begin...

Thanks all. Found Tickets Direct and they seem to have decent reviews on Trustpilot so for ease of purchase, we might just buy from them

    Lean Sigma 6 Green Belt

I'm in public sector and I think we are hitting a crisis point where there needs to be process change. So the course would be in response to that and also to gaining recognition/promotion in an area where i'm a relative newbie.

    Childrens Allowance investment

I did search Brendan but didn't see anything about regular deposits of very small amounts like this for a long period. Apologies if I have missed them though. Yes. Do you think we should be clearing this down instead? No debts other than the mortgage. We work hard, save hard, enjoy life but...

    Childrens Allowance investment

Could anyone recommend where we should invest our monthly childrens allowance? Currently €280/pm going into an AIB junior saver account with 2.25% interest. We'd have about another 8 years before we'd be looking to access this money. thanks.

    Cheapest finance for new car

We need to trade up our car and also have to buy a second car (we've held out for 7yrs but it's finally necessary). For the first time, we will not have the cash to make the purchase outright so we will need finance. Just wondering what is the best value finance available right now. I recall...

    Cancelled Aer Lingus Flight<24hrs notice

Our flight from JFK to Dublin was cancelled yesterday with only 14hours notice. We were re routed to CDG Paris and then Dublin as an alternative. Flight left JFK for CDG at almost the same time as our original scheduled flight but we got to Dublin over 6hours later than our original flight...

When to claim on insurance ..general rule of thumb

I have only once ever claimed on my insurance and it was about 12 years ago. I now have a dent on my car door and the repairs are €850 so more than a minor repair. Trying to figure out if it's worth claiming on the insurance or will my next premium increase exactly in line with my claim?

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

Haven't seen them since Paul but spoke with Avant and they said all switches need solicitors so there is either some very peculiar anomaly with this particular switch or the neighbours have made a mistake.

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

Hi Paul, after much thought we think are going to go for Avant's one mortgage and at least have security of knowing our repayments will remain the same for the next 13 years. Our neighbours recently moved to Avant and claimed they did not need a solicitor? Could that be right? thanks.

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

    1) Where are you getting the information that it is 3.9%? Both written statement (from Jan 2022) and re-confirmed over the phone yesterday. 2) Is it on a recent statement? As above 3) If it is 3.9% , you should write to KBC and ask them to issue you with a document outlining the changes in the...

Just got quoted an all in fee of €950 to include professional fee, Vat, land registry, searches. Local firm but don't know anyone who has used them for switching. Would you risk it?

Key Post Switch or re-fix my mortgage? Breakage fee calculator and savings estimates for your case (Ireland)

Hi Paul, apologies I understand what you're saying now. Yes, it is definitely 3.9%. I did query this with the bank last week and was told 'it's really variable as I have never actually seen rate changes applied'! What do I do with that information?

Paul, thank you hugely for that wealth of information. Good question re the variable rate....embarrassingly it's because we never reviewed our mortgage. No excuses :(
