Teen saving account for lump sum

Hj My father left some money to my children in his will. Both already have an account, one is a special needs account with AIB and I'll lodge his share on it. The other, however, needs 2 new accounts. She currently has a Safari account with PTSB but since they changed the interest rate, it's...

    Savings Account for Child?

Just came on this thread to find alternative to the kids PTSB accounts and I see everyone got a similar letter. PTSB is dropping the rate to 0.01%, with no limit to the saving. So for every 10k saved, you get the princely sum of ONE euro (before DIRT). Might as well put it under the mattress for...

who to contact for water leak from rain coming through outside wall?

Ah, thank you! We don't even need to worry about the esthetic of it as we are planning to do the external insulation at some point. It's great to know we can fix that without going through major works

who to contact for water leak from rain coming through outside wall?

Thanks Leo. We know it's not condensation as I have all windows open at least for an hour a day and haven't noticed any problem anywhere else. Can this be a DIY job, though?

who to contact for water leak from rain coming through outside wall?

Hi We bought a late 60's house recently (had it surveyed and fixed all issues that were found at the time). I removed the wallpaper from the dining room downstairs 3 weeks ago, and noticed one area against the outside wall, above the window, where the wallpaper was already coming off and some...

    Utility room in garden shed

Hi Pardon my ignorance, I'm totally new to this, having lived in an apartment for years. We have now our own garden, and want to tear down the existing small garden shed (no concrete base, no wiring) to install a larger one that will be used as utility room. I already know that it doesn't need...

Tax liability on inheritance from a different country

Thanks for your answer. To clarify, we've been here 19 years, home owners, working for Irish companies and paying taxes. I'm in the process of applying to citizenship to get voting rights. My parents want to give some of their inheritance to their grandchildren, and the question came up with...

Tax liability on inheritance from a different country

Hi My husband and myself are both foreign nationals from another EU country. Kids have an Irish passport. Which tax rules apply for inheritance? The ones from our parents country or Irish rules? Thanks

New owners have redirected post before signing contracts!

Rosie, moving house, especially when in a chain, is stressful. I can understand that you felt a bit annoyed by their lack of courtesy. However, do they have any direct contact with you? It could be that they were advised to give their new address for insurance and school registration purpose but...

Recent experience with probate grant (Dublin)

Thanks Elcato. Our solicitor received an update from the vendor's, he contacted the probate office and was told 6-7 weeks, so not too bad

    Buying Apartment (Dublin)

We lived for 13 years in an apartment. As Elcato pointed out, having a management company, while costly, can have its upsides. Check the management co. records, AGM and audits, you want to steer clear of the ones that have issues with creditors and have no records of undertaking large works in...

    Head or heart

A few things to consider: 1. inheritance doesn't mean quick sale... We are deep into it, the house we are buying was put up for sale in September, previous buyer pulled out, we went sale agreed on it on February 6th and the EA assured us it would be a quick sale as the vendors were eager to...

Recent experience with probate grant (Dublin)

Thanks Elcato. And sorry you had to go through this yourself. I feel actually bad harassing the vendors as they have lost their dad

Recent experience with probate grant (Dublin)

Hi We are buying a house that is a probate. The house was put for sale in September, the first buyers pulled out (asbestos issue which we are ok to get fixed). We went sale agreed for it in early February. The communication with the vendor's solicitor is brutal. He won't return calls or emails...

    Realistic conveyancing cost

Paid 2400€ incl. Vat to sell our property (Dublin area). It included 380€ fees to management company for end of contract (thieves....), and 180€ remaining LPT. I'm looking at a similar invoice for our purchase. EA fees 5k (but worth it, in fairness) Be careful of the hidden fees, like that...

    Bidding Strategy

You bid on Friday. Monday was a bank holiday. And bids don't come that fast anymore, it's no longer the celtic tiger years (thankfully!). We received 5 bids on our apartment, some spaced by a week, and there was a 'healthy interest' as the EA put it. You'll have to wait as the vendor is most...

Paying tax on welfare income I no longer receive

Thanks. I eventually went to my local Intreo office and they provided me with a statement for all payments from the Dep of Social protection. Since there is no payment for carers, it should be ok to prove that I'm no longer in receipt of this. I hope so!
