House Insurance with a partial flat roof.

Have a flat roof which covers >40% of the total roof area. Extremely difficult to get a competitive quote. With Allianz for the past 3 years and have been refused by all the top insurance names this year. Brookers were useless. Allianz must be very aware of the niche they have and as such are...

    Case study Timber Child's Cot

Recently went to attic to get cot (that had been put away with the intentions of not being needed again !!!) only to discover that a number of barrel nuts and those weird screw through bolts were missing. Rang Smyths (where we bought cot) looking for spares - spares not available. rang...

Buying a new build, concerned by boundary wall location

Are these drawings just marketing material / brochure or actual plans that the builder is working off ??

    House Survey & Valuation

Speaking from experience this price seems about right. But be wary of what you expect to get from the survey. As already mentioned some reports are just a marketing exercise. Before agreeing to the survey check: 1. The age of the house - older houses will throw up surprises that can easily be...

    Hotpoint Dishwasher Problem. Error 8

If you Google the model number and the fault it comes back with a faulty thermostat. Its not an easy fix and one that I would generally class as requiring an engineer to look at. Sorry. I always Google issues first before calling the service departments - to date have saved 3 callouts for...

    Tennis Lessons Dublin

I just started back at tennis 2 weeks ago after a lifetime absence. Same age group as yourself. I found adult coaching through the Cork Parks Tennis. There is a similar scheme in Dublin where there may be adult coaching. You should check this out first !!

    September Update email from PaYPAL

I recently used Paypal to buy an item from one of these GroupOn vouchers. The item was being delivered from Australia. So when I got this mail yesterday I was curious. I hovered over the link (as mentioned above) and could see there was a mention of Australia in the link. Seemed genuine and I...

    DCC buyout - Solictor needed

I've mentioned this before in other threads - no single council has a clue how to handle the whole AH scheme. Each council seem to make up their rules. To this end I was successful in getting out of my AH houseing contract 2 years ago and we sold our house without the penalty of the clawback. We...

    NCT tests backlogs getting longer

I rang last week after getting a date of 02 Feb 15 as the earliest available date in Cork. Got a text yesterday to say booking now arranged for next Saturday. When you ring they will give you a date and time within 28 days - otherwise its free.

Length of CU membership before obtaining loan?

I think its a case of building up a regular savings record for a few months first. As its a first loan then there may be limits on it depending on the amount in savings already.

    Open 24 constantly getting locked

Have you opened Open24 on another PC / tablet etc that may not be closed down fully. If you've logged out on PC try logging in again and then log and close out browser. Then try opening app on phone / tablet. Not a definite fix but has worked in the past.

    Jobs for the weekend,what's yours??

Got a chippy friend of mine to get his opnion on weather the wood was treated. he reckons its not so based on this will be cutting all weekend. +1 on the de-nailing but reckon with proper precautions the circular saw will make short work of it.

    Jobs for the weekend,what's yours??

Left lights out for the whole year before and dodn't fair well with the weather etc. Have to laugh at the thought of Easter decorations though..LOL. Big job this weekend is to get cutting wood that has been drying for a few months in the gargage. Wood came from a dismanteld workshop so needs to...

    Jobs for the weekend,what's yours??

Xmas lights up and working. Took just over an hour. Another pain in the a** job ticked off the list. Not too early - just didn't fancy being stuck up a ladder in 2 months time in colder weather and so on. Done now so - next?

    legality of barbed wire?

I've seen fences in residential areas with the wire clearly on view plus a few houses with a sign ( discreetly ) placed on the fence warning of the presence of barb wire on the fences.
