Ombudsman has just uploaded another batch of tracker decisions

I realise Mr Burgess is busy and doesn't read the posts carefully. 1. I do recall welcoming the CBI Tracker Investigation as similar to U.S. in WWII. They were late but the war would not have been won without them. I mentioned nothing at all on the previous post about that but happy to clarify...

Request all info on mortgage legal form

You could use 'subject access request' under GDPR. However, what are you specifically looking for as the Bank may simply give it to you and they are entitled to ask you what it you want as opposed to shipping a whole load of irrelevant material.

Ombudsman has just uploaded another batch of tracker decisions

102 rejected? Given the changes to the FSPO legislation - not strictly bound by contract - this sounds like back to Bill Prasifka - is something seriously wrong here? I heard from a well known advocate that many cases have been pulled and confidence with FSPO from that advocates position is...

Buying a User Car Privately from the UK

@techman does this help or hinder? https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/index.aspx

    Importing a car from NI

@MichaelR see if this helps first. I found it a little ambiguous but see if you can untangle it (!) https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/registering-vehicles-from-ni.aspx

Guernsey savings account and UK savings account

I would have thought UK dependency so UK (or foreign) as the tax treatment of NON-EU interest is different to EU interest.

Irish Capital Gains Tax on Sale of Main Residence in UK

If you move to Ireland there is a potential additional relief where your job required you to move up to a four year maximum. As has been said @Farma1 you have the last 12 months in any event.

Inheritance - husband died but house did not change name to wife

It seems likely that the title was never altered and @Farma1 points out if it was 'joint tenancy' there is a survivor takes all situation. Many married couples will likely have joint tenancy. The question is also is there a Will now? If Wife dies intestate this applies S67B (2) If all the issue...

Health Insurance VHI to scrap Health Plus (Plan B) from 1st May 2024

Perhaps others will know more here - but the impression I have is older VHI members never changed their subscription either out of fear, ignorance or simply inertia. It appears these policies were among the most expensive and could have been renegotiated even with VHI for almost identical cover...

    Small Payments on Death - Credit Unions - S23 CU Act 1997 - now €18,000 wef 23/02/2024

This one is in Credit Union Acts 1997-2023. I believe you are right but I am not clear as to whether it is statutory or practice. This does not alter any CAT liability that might arise apart from deduction of funeral costs.

    Revenue - slow responses

One very good solution if you have a problem is to contact Revenue Complaints - have your facts - they are most efficient. That said as the most successful integrator of services electronically and skillfully avoiding requiring over 2.3mn to make a tax return is efficient by any standard.

Revenue - Capital Acquisitions Tax - useful summary

Sorry that there are a few Revenue updates - they issue lots of these and I try and select the few that I think are helpful. One little matter that popped up is the matter of 'joint tenancy'. This is a legal term and it means that ownership is not say half or a quarter but access to the whole...

Revenue - Single Person Child Carer Tax Credit and wider 20% band

A number of practicing associates tell me that many don't seem to claim this relief. It may well be helpful to people you know. This credit, the Single PersonChild Carer Credit (SPCCC) replaced the One-Parent Family Tax Credit(OPFC) with effect from 1 January 2014. The OPFC does not apply...

Revenue Guidelines for Phased Payments, Instalment arrangements and warehouse

Hopefully none of you need this but many small businesses in the likes of hospitality may have availed of arrangements during Covid and may need a BIT OF HELP. https://www.revenue.ie/en/tax-professionals/tdm/collection/debt-management/instalment-arrangements.pdf Seems helpful.

Are Go Fund me proceeds taxable?

Every one can gift €3,000 to your friend - and she can receive €3,000 from each with no tax consequences. As regards Social Protection - can you tell us anything if what your friend receives is means tested etc? Hope that helps.

Sports Club discipline away from the club

There was a recent case involving a Club and a person who had been a member but had not paid subscription and he successfully sued the Club for an accident at a club event that I don't think was on their premises or grounds. (The case is on here if you scroll back). I would have thought on that...

Why do people open credit union accounts?

Lets discuss the 'bailout' first - I had clearly indicated that this referred to credit losses and these were estimated to be €500mn and did not crystallise. Conflating this with decision to pay depositors was a separate matter and also applied to anybody with a deposit account and indeed bond...
