Are electricity price plans with free units Saturday or Sunday a gimmick?

Haven’t crunched the numbers in detail but our experience is similar. Suits our lifestyle to do most of the washing, cooking (meal prep for the week), showers for the kids etc on Sunday so we are getting close to maxing the free electricity every month. Unfortunately we are using more on the...

Key Post I have an Ulster Bank tracker – should I consider fixing?

Sorry Brendan. It is rented out to a family member (they are availing of HAP), they do not have the means to accommodate themselves independently for the foreseeable future. We will not evict them but if they got a house (they are on housing list) we would probably sell.

Key Post I have an Ulster Bank tracker – should I consider fixing?

    1) Existing tracker margin 1.15% 2) Amount outstanding on your mortgage 92k 3) Remaining term 18yrs 4) Lender Ulster Bank 5) Value of your home 163k 6) Might you trade up or overpay your mortgage? Unsure (we are accidental landlords for all the obvious reasons we would probably sell, but we are...

Home insurance for 2 or 3 years rather than 1.

I availed of the three year option with Zurich. I shopped around diligently before choosing Zurich based on one year price. They extended extra discount based on having multiple policies with them (Life Insurance I think is my other policy). Not having to shop around for three years is a massive...

    Netflix versus Amazon Prime Video

The Amazon interface is poor compared to Netflix as well in my opinion. Pretty sure the contract is only month to month so no big loss to give a shot for a month.

How much can a spouse earn before paying 40% tax?

See above! This is from 2017 but is the most recent I can find. The property is jointly owned. I can't remember every making a decision or being asked whether to split the income or not, but, maybe I did. Anyway it seems to only be in 'my' column. Is this important? Should I ask to have it...

How much can a spouse earn before paying 40% tax?

RedOnion - is there an easy way to check? I only fill out one form every year to indicate the rental income? But that does ask me to input my wife’s pay from previous year etc. It is under some threshold and Revenue collect what is due by reducing my tax credits the following year.

How much can a spouse earn before paying 40% tax?

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but this seems relevant to my situation. If anyone could check my workings + logic here it would be greatly appreciated. I am on higher rate tax, also with rental income, my wife is currently working 3 days per week and availing of parental leave 2 days...

Second time buyer mortgage deposit query.

Hey sunnywalk, We are in a similar position to you. We are very close to closing on our new house. We have a property that we wanted to keep (it is in negative equity / breakeven at best) and 10% deposit, but, plenty of scope regarding LTI. In our initial discussions with the bank we had...

    Notice period when selling

Our landlord has put the house we are renting up for sale. We have been tenants since Oct 2013. Is there a straightforward answer to how long notice period we are entitled to? My understanding (from brief research) is we would be entitled to four months notice. However the lease is more...

    Opinions on gaming and children

Our 7 year old son requested a console from Christmas this year. We were worried that it would lead to arguments over how much he would be allowed to use it. We bought him a Nintendo Switch. So far so good. If you download the app then you can set very detailed time limits - different amounts...

How long does Aer Lingus Express Bag Drop take in Dublin Airport?

Just to be aware the closing time for bags to be checked in is in excess of the time you might need to get to your gate. Because the automated bag drop is so efficient I recently did not leave any extra time on arrival at the airport. So I may have arrived with about 50 mins or so before...

    Motoring Expenses During Training Period

Hi all, My wife has been offered a new job based in Limerick where we live. However, for the first six months she will be required to travel to Cork for training. As it currently stands the employer is not willing to reimburse travel expenses during this period. I have two questions: Is...

How much does my health insurance cost me?

Thanks huskerdu. The single figure on the policy document is €2,729.40. My payslip (per month) says Health Insurance BIK = €113.73; Health Insurance = €113.73. I guess I am just trying to make sure my understanding of how my employer paying half my premium affects the tax I pay and therefore...

How much does my health insurance cost me?

I am confused as to what my health insurance actually costs me! My employer pays half the premium, which I am taxed on (as I understand it). Then there is the tax relief at source, group discount, government levy. So all a bit of a muddle. I pay tax at the higher rate. Total Premium...
