Public Sector Pension - how much is it really worth?

Thanks all. I'm a public sector employee in the higher education sector. As far as I am aware, the pension is funded by directly by the HEA. I have a good feel now that it is generous enough. Still wondering if I can start my own pension fund independently of my employers (and the AVCs they...

Public Sector Pension - how much is it really worth?

The 50% is inclusive of the state pension. My contributions are based on my gross less a certain multiple of the current state pension. I understand that this is how all post April 1995 public sector joiners pensions work. I pay class A1 PRSI - the same as I paid in the private sector.

Public Sector Pension - how much is it really worth?

My public sector pension provides for a max pension of 50% of my final salary. Is this considered "good" in pension terms? Other than AVCs, can I take out an additional pension? I'm interested in putting a value on how much this pension would cost me in the private sector. Does anybody have any...

Might buy a pair and give them a go. Don't really mind looking like a dipstick if I arrive home in one piece. Better that looking like a dipstick having run into a ditch or worse ...

    Night Driving Glasses

10 years ago I had laser surgery (PRK) to correct short-sightedness. All-in-all, I am very happy with the result. An optician described my sight as 20/20 recently. The main reason I went for the recent test was to see if he could offer any advice about glares and halos I see around light whilst...

Health Insurance & Maternity Cover what is the best plan and health insurance co?

I did a search through previous discussions and don't seem to be able to find any info on this. For a young couple planning a child over the next year or two, what is the best plan and health insurance company to be with? Exactly what is covered and what is not covered. I think I read...

Buying share in property - Price agreed but market value has risen since.

How would you feel if the tables were turned? I'd suggest you play it fair and work on the premise that you'll be splitting the proceeds 50% unless you're working on the premise of taking an ex-friend to court.

Unauthorised Overdraft (Tesco's fault) and my credit rating

I took out a Tesco credit card recently (interest free for six months and all that) to cover me while I wait for some money I have coming my way in August. I signed a direct debit mandate form with Tesco to deduct the min balance each month. However, they deduced a full 3000 this month and ran...

Civil service - pros and cons

I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you become a life-time civil servant, your final pension will be 40/80ths of your final salary inclusive of the state pension (with 1/80th for every year worked).

    Knocksedan Demesne (North Dublin)

Two for sale at the moment: [broken link removed] - 850k and [broken link removed] - 925 Pricey - considering you don't have any transport links and don't even have a footpath to walk to Swords village/town. Or, is this an issue?

DCU Staff are represented solely by SIPTU afaik. Does this mean that IT staff within the higher education sector have a better chance of promotion. How does this work?

Just rang Morton & Flanagan to enquire. Apparently, they are all sold out and they are taking names for cancellations. People queued overnight and they sold on the morning of the release! They had 15 one beds from 259, 44 two beds from 310, and 15 three beds from 350 - all gone - mad!! I am the...

    Swords estates

I am looking for a house across the road at the moment in in Bunbury Gate or Brides Glen. They seem to be really really nice estates. I know someone who lives there and they love it. Castleview has a lot of two bed terrace houses with no drives which might explain some damage to cars parked in...
