Cornmarket AVC Fees & Some Misc Queries

Building on the posts above, I have been investigating setting up an AVC and have a question about the different fee setups if anyone is able to assist. It seems that fees can vary quite a bit. One broker has suggested a Zurich AVC PRSA, but with 95% allocation and 1% AMC. I am questioning the...

"This is a great country to be a child"

It’s not a straight 25% reduction. There will be a fixed increase in the NCS subsidy that will apply. The last “25%” reduction worked out as ~15% to us.

People based in the Republic of Ireland holding "old" £ sterling notes will probably need to convert them into Euro before 30 September 2022!

Just to be aware that if you intend to use a foreign currency exchange to change any old sterling notes, some of them have a cut off. For example, one of them in Dublin will no longer accept the £20 and £50 notes after close of business today (19th September).

    Bank of mum and dad

I see that RTE has an article on this: Is the Bank of Mum & Dad still in line for a tax hit?

Avant Money launches a new mortgage today from < 2%

Getting caught on a higher rate is a possibility at the end of the fixed period, equally it is possible that you could move to a better one after 2 or 3 years.

Avant Money launches a new mortgage today from < 2%

First of all, it’s great to see new competition. However, as pointed out by others, you need to do the calculations and decide what suits best. For example: KBC (current account mortgage) switcher, €3k cashback 250k, 20 year term at 2.25% (LTV<60%) = €1295/month. Avant 250k, 20 year term at...

    COVID-19 package holiday cancellation options

Fantastic, that covers us. Fortunately I did use the appropriate wording. I will be following up with the travel agent to get our €150 back.

    COVID-19 package holiday cancellation options

Thanks all. We confirmed with the agent that no further money would be taken if we cancelled, so went ahead and requested that the trip be cancelled. I did cite unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances and cancellation of multiple flights across Europe as the reason. We can afford to lose the...

    COVID-19 package holiday cancellation options

Thanks everybody for the comments. We’re strongly considering cutting our losses at this point and cancelling. We just need to make sure that they won’t try and automatically enforce the 50% cancellation fee as per the T&Cs! Of course, if we let it ride, the same T&Cs state that in the event...

    COVID-19 package holiday cancellation options

Not that I can see on my account, as it is not set up as a direct debit or standing order. I’ll give my bank a call and see if they can do that for me.

    COVID-19 package holiday cancellation options

Thanks Brendan, ideally that is what I’d like to do, however, they automatically take the balance on the due date from my card.

    COVID-19 package holiday cancellation options

Just looking for some views. I know this is far down the list of priorities given what people are going through. We are due to pay the balance on a package holiday to Portugal for the last week of May this weekend. We've already put €150 down and have another €1800 to pay this weekend. Given...

Laya Should we stay on Laya Control 600 Connect.

Control 600 Create appears to have disappeared off Laya's site. The nearest is Control 600 Total, which could offer better value (€1004.57) than Control 600 Connect (€955.07) if you factor in the excess of €1 and up to €80 back in routine dental or a couple of doctor/physio visits.

Laya Should we stay on Laya Control 600 Connect.

Just to note, that going to their website directly today as a new customer gave me a quote of €880.80 with a start date of today. Edit: Sorry, that takes into account a partial payment for the month. A full period quote is €955.07.

    exemption on loan to income

I take it that you are a second time buyer and thus would make the application ineligible for the first time buyers help to buy scheme? Otherwise I don't see why you would not make a joint application with your partner and avoid the tax implications. I would imagine that the bank would need to...

No Dirt on people saving up for the deposit to buy a home

As far as I am aware you will not be eligible as both individuals must be first time buyers on a joint mortgage. I know that this is the way the first time buyer's grant was handled in the past so it is worth checking out.

BoI to change fee structure - No Longer Possible to Get Free Banking

BOI account closed today after 19 years. I was hit with the new €5 maintenance fee on closing as this is the start of the new quarter. I overlooked breathe's post and so thought I'd be hit with a full quarter of fees if I did it last week. Either way, I'll see if I can get it back as they are...

ESB low user surcharge - check your bill

I just thought I'd give an update. The first response from Electric Ireland didn't provide satisfaction, so I sent in a detailed follow up, finishing with a request for a complaint reference number. This resulted in a good will gesture (cash) that I was happy with. Their site acknowledges that...

ESB low user surcharge - check your bill

This has happened to me as well. I am currently in contact with Electric Ireland trying to get this resolved. Similarly, a large overestimation of a previous bill followed by an actual reading resulted in the low usage charge being applied. Given that my apartment runs solely on electricity...
