    Mid 40s and Getting Nowhere

Sorry to hear about the stress. As others have said, you need to clarify the parents mortgage thing, and get your spouse on board. Money issues cause a lot of marriages to have trouble, and sounds like his head is in the sand with this. That said, if my spouse was paying her parents mortgage I...

Is it possible to release equity to clear debt?

I put the rate in the post above 6.95%. ill have a look around and see if anyone will giveme 3.5x my income. I don’t need an exception, I had a lower income when I applied and would like 3.5 of the new one. That would allow me clear credit union and start paying parents back. Thanks everyone

Is it possible to release equity to clear debt?

Thanks for the responses. I owe €30,000 to CU at 6.95% 44,000 to parents with no interest. I’m not in trouble paying these back. But my parents are in their 70s and will need the money. I would just like to get these loans sorted asap and just have a mortgage

Is it possible to release equity to clear debt?

Hello, I have a small-ish mortgage, a house that it worth over double my mortgage, but then a lot of other debt (all debt is related to building the house, on one income, in the last year with costs sky rocketing). Current situation - Salary €63,000 Mortgage €187,000 House valuation...

Retired couple - no major queries, just want to check is anything missing?

The only thing that jumped out at me from the post was not knowing the ages as well! Other than that all seems fine.

    Self Build Mortgage Question

Hello. Im building a house and have a self build mortgage with AIB. The mortgage will cover about 60% of build cost (Single applicant , average wage so have had to save a lot, therefore cant get help to buy as won’t have correct mortgage / house value ratio). Anyway, went to draw down first...

    Invest where?

Are you sure the house is in just your name but the mortgage is in both? My friend was in a very similar situation. Bank were willing to go slightly over the 3.5x for her, but she had to give a big lump sum to get his name off the deeds / mortgage. I think it would be a great use of funds. It's...

    How am I doing?

I would echo the above. No reason to keep all that money in your current account earning no interest, and then paying 4% on a loan. Pay it off today. Other than that you're doing great.

    Irresponsible? Silly? Stupid?

Sorry to hear plans are scuppered, but great to hear you're more determined than ever. Life is for living. I got a payout at 18 after a car crash. Everyone said to invest. I went travelling for a year at 22 and don't regret a single penny of what I spent. Hope it works out for you!

What is the best budgeting app? (Preferably free) :)

I use an App called Money Lover. I have to manually enter all my transactions. Well, I put in my monthly standing orders/direct debit and then input my other spending. Having to admit to all my spending at the end of the day can help keep me in track! I use my Revolut card a lot so generally I...

Will investing be held against you for a mortgage?

Thanks for the quick reply! I was a bit shocked at their reaction.

Will investing be held against you for a mortgage?

Hello people, I'm about to apply for a mortgage. In a long planning application, could be next summer before anything really happens. In the meantime I've been reading a lot about investing and today bought a few shares on Revolut. People in my work were shocked, said no bank would look at me...

You can no longer easily switch bank accounts

Interesting Ciaran. They were adamant on the phone today that it's not possible anymore. I switched from AIB to PTSB in 2014 and had no problems at all. Just signed a form and everything happened. I've to go through each one individually now. And phone company won't do anything online or over...

You can no longer easily switch bank accounts

Hello people, Back in the day you could easily switch current accounts. One form and all the direct debits magically found their way to your new account. The people in EBS gave me that form last month and now I'm dealing with late direct debit charges because such a system no longer exists...

PTSB Explore account to go up to €6/month

I can't see anything on whether we'll still get 10c back on every transaction. Is that gone?

PTSB Explore account to go up to €6/month

Just a heads up for those of you (like me) who switched to an Explore Account thinking they'd make some of their money back on those transactions. According to this it's going up to €6 from August 1st. https://www.permanenttsb.ie/mortgages/first-time-buyer-mortgage/ In the "And 2% back...

Best way to purchase online for non-euro items

The Revolut set up is very fast. And you get a virtual card to use while you're waiting for your physical card. So you could use the digits from your virtual card. I remember being amazed at the exchange rate I got when I first started using Revolut for booking flights in other currencies.

PTSB Increase Current Account Maintenance Fees for some

I made the switch to the Explore Account and so far so good. I've made back a fair bit using the card. It was easier than switching banks. I might still go to EBS at some stage, although their terrible internet banking and no App are putting me off.

    Where to get Chinese Currency?

If it's a school trip, could your daughter ask her friends how their parents are getting the currency? Tarfhead said up there that Revolut withdrawls are limited to €200 a month. is this true? I'm going travelling soon and am planning on using Revolut and will need to withdraw much more than...

New RTE programme "How to be Good with Money"

I'm a secondary school teacher. I can tell you, very very few of them would listen/have an interest when they're not working and have no income to try juggle. If we ever say something like - you earn €30k in that job they're like "Holy cow! €30k! I can buy a brand new €30k car every year so"...
