    Selling jointly owned property

Obligatory mention of the €3,000 annual small gift exemption, which anyone can give anyone. In BB's example, the parents and each uncle can give €3000 each without impacting the €32,500 threshold.

CAT - gift for house purchase

It's been a while since I've looked into the wedding exemption, but I believe the rationale is that a wedding is a family party and not just the couple marrying so Revenue take the view that the parents paying for it are hosting it and not the child. Found it here: Cost of Family Functions Paid...

Are bitcoin buyers paying tax properly?

I don't think the EU has any role in enforcing CGT. In Ireland, at least, CGT is self-assessed, the obligation is on the taxpayer to work out their liablity

Home insurance - what are people paying on average?

That time of the year for me too: semi-detatched owner-occupied 4 bed in Midleton (up a hill), max NCB. SCSI rebuild cost approx €380k, FBD had index-linked, etc to 413k. contents €72k (nothing specified, just loads of "stuff") FBD - renewal quote €499 I spent a while yesterday online: I...

Any Tax Implications on purchasing property with cash, prior to selling my Primary residence

Hi Brendan, I'm not sure that's correct, I believe you have 12 months grace to sell the old house before it becomes liable to CGT when sold. I don't think renting it out or not makes a difference. Wrt the new house, I assume it is considered your ppr while you are renovating it?

Monthly budgeting when spouse is paid 4-weekly

I have partially filled out some lines, all figures made up but insert your own to see what it looks like. Minus figures are red so you can see if you put in an expense for a particular week which will cause a problem you'll have to rejig the numbers. I put in estimates for CC bills (everything...

Monthly budgeting when spouse is paid 4-weekly

Hi Sweet Pea, I think what you need to do is set up a cashflow spreadsheet in excel (I use LibreOffice - it's free). Mine has the week across the top, then first row is balance in account, second row is your pay, third row his pay, then total income, next you put the outgoings - rent/mortgage...

Seeking Guidance on Future Tax Implications as a Widow

Employee tax credit is available where the taxpayer has DSP income. Widowed person tax credit is the personal tax credit for a widowed person, as opposed to single or married tax credit. Widowed parent tax credit is additional where there are dependent children...

Not to disagree with your point @Purple, but the minimum wage is increasing to €12.70 per hour

Can the landlord charge the tenants apartment management fees?

You are writing 100% of the management fee off against income and then calculating the tax due on the net income.

Refused letter of tax residence as they have no record of my paying taxes. What do?

I don't have myaccount but can you look under "Irish taxed income" and if it's not there try "Untaxed income arising in the State"? Edit: Just saw that @ClubMan has even put screenshots of where to find the correct place

Refused letter of tax residence as they have no record of my paying taxes. What do?

Not really, dividends are subject to income tax and as such the withholding tax may be refunded or further tax may be due if liable at the higher rate.

Irish citizen, domiciled in England 30 years - Probate

Whether the property in Ireland was a PPR or not would affect CGT (which is extinguished on death anyway) but if he was resident in England it cannot have been his PPR anyway. It could affect CAT if the person inheriting it was living in it but that does not appear to be the case here.

Moving funds between institutions, issued a cheque; am I liable for it?

I wouldn't have thought a financial advisor would usually get into how exactly to transfer funds from one institution to another. They generally stick to advising on which products to put your money in.

Ulster bank has miscalculated the repayments on trackers for years. Now it's AIB's problem

I have a tracker with Ulster Bank which has yet to transfer. I put the outstanding balance, term remaining and interest rate into a couple of online calculators and they come up with pretty close to my actual repayment so hopefully not affected. The problem really is that people believe that...

    Surcharge on amended return

Sorry, I was rather unclear last night - the glitch was that the return would not accept the amendment (of PWST as I had entered the wrong figure) until I went through capital allowances and farm allowances(?) for each of our self employed income and entered 0 in each box. We had not claimed any...
