    Stop draught from fusebox

I have looked in the ESB box on the outside of the house...there are no apparent gaps and I can see some of the beading from the pumped cavity wall insulation nice and snug around the 3 wires entering the house. The ESB meter itself is mounted on a sheet of plyboard, it sounds hollow behind...

    Stop draught from fusebox

Thanks Paddy, but the draught comes through the entire front of the box where the rows of trip switches are so I need to seal the entire front. A few years ago we tried some of the expanding foam spray to to do the perimeter edges but that was a bad idea 'cos an electrician spent ages, trying...

    Stop draught from fusebox

Hi. We have a problem with a draught from the fusebox in our utility. The house is 11 years old, detached and had extra insulation pumped into the walls and attic. The utility is always the coldest room in the house due, I believe, to this draught My question : is it safe/acceptable to cover...

My Cordyline australis (palm tree) has been damaged by the frosts. Can it be revived?

Just noticed new growth about 6 inches from base of my Cordylines - had given up on them and put in 3 new plants just a few weeks ago after I noticed the old trunks had a smell like rotten silage !!!

Condensation in Attic Dripping down from the Felt onto the Insulation

I had the same problem with condensation on attic felt during the very cold weather last year - only realised there was a problem when we saw small damp patches on the plasterboard in the attic conversion... got into a big panic about it afraid the rafters would be damaged or the insulation...

Ferco door handle - ? spring repair

Hi, Having trouble with back door Ferco 3 point lock - it won't spring back when in open position. It feels like there's a spring broken/worn out, but I can't see anything obvious when I remove the handles... further investigation would require taking off the entire brass strip on that side of...

    Travelling with baby...

Hi, They let you keep buggy until you board at the gate - which is great, but one word of advice don't travel with an expensive buggy - we had 2 broken, same problem each time ( fracture of the metal wheel support, I think this was due to low temp. in the cargo area and then rough handling as it...

    Reglue laminate furniture

Thanks Joanne. I've managed to track down the man who fitted them for us, he said it's a problem with the glue mix used by the manufacturer, he has seen it happen before but mostly in kitchens where a little moisture causes the MDF to swell and snap the glue hold ! Regluing is a possibility...

    Yeti V's Kuga

Yep, I have to agree I prefer the look of the Kuga, but for a price difference of around 7,000 Euro I'm very tempted to embrace a little bit of ugly :o

    Cooker Banjaxed?

I had a new element fitted on a Creda fan oven recently - cost 70 Euro for the part and labour. No call out charge as such, told him what we needed so he'd have replacement one with him ;) .Took about 10 minutes.

    Reglue laminate furniture

Oh - sorry if this sounds really stupid, but I'm not sure :( . Just did a google search to help me decide but I'm none the wiser with the definations on wikipedia... Looking up info. from when the house was built now I'm thinking they were described as beech effect MDF... It's not "real " wood...

    Reglue laminate furniture

I have a problem with the laminate finish lifting off my furniture. It's happening only on the horizontal surface of 7 year old drawers ( custom built to match built-in wardrobes, same problem in each of the bedrooms ). I have nervously tried using a warm iron to heat/reglue but the result was...

    Dog Run

Hi slookie We fought a losing battle against mud for 4 long years with our 2 dogs, in a small back garden - then we got rid of the grass/mud altogether, put down some good quality landscape membrane and at least a 3 inch layer of gravel ( got the larger stone size to deter neighbours cat using...

    Boiler timer switch broken

Hi, I have an APT boiler timer switch - clock type with moveable segements that turn on/off boiler . The kids have pulled off a segement today :( I've found the segement but have apparently made matters worse by trying (unsuccessfully) to reattach it because now the timer will switch on for that...

Can extractor fan in bathroom be vented into attic?

Still stuck on shower fan venting into attic space - I have used flexiduct to bring it over near a soffitt vent but I know this will cause condensation inside the duct in the cold attic and anyway the steam won't exit the attic well (if at all) in a downward direction !!! I am very hesitant to...
