Shopping outside the country - unpatriotic?

Hullo Mary :D seriously, I'm glad you took my comment in context. I'd like to think people would care about Mary losing her job - but not everyone can afford to subsidise it right now!

Shopping outside the country - unpatriotic?

Why did people know the price of the buggy in the Argos Stores here in the first place? Because even with the ludicrous difference between the ROI & Uk prices, they were still better than the locally owned shops. I was in a Next store just off Trafalgar Square in London a while ago. Noticed a...

Shopping outside the country - unpatriotic?

For one thing, Uk companies are not the only people running retail outlets here. For another, imho, lofty morals & the bigger picture will not put food on the table of a normal working class family, or indeed one which has suffered job loss, this week. There are many families running on a very...

Ads that really getting on my wick.....

Re: Two ads that are really getting on my wick... That new Barry's tea one, where the daughter annoinces to her parents that she's taking a year out to go travelling, starting with Bangkok. Cue shocked expressions number 3 & 4. Then, as she leaves in a taxi, her mother does this weird combo of...

    How much do you swear?

When I worked offshore, swearing was cumpulsory. On my first day off, Mrs Jock had to remind me a few times that I was in gentler company. Now I seldom swear, even when she's out of earshot.

I bought the Sun today - but don't tell anyone.

Resistance is futile! :D Seriously though, in the Galway store, I've only been asked once if I wanted their store card, and they accepted my "no, thanks" without further discussion. I have heard they can be pushy enough in other stores though.

    Bargains in Asda Yesterday

Interesting stuff. I must admit that when I do accompany Mrs Jock to the shops, I don't always take that much notice of prices. However, some of it must sink in! Going round Tesco on Friday, Mrs Jock grabs her usual 1ltr of Tropicana pure OJ. I noticed it was €3.29 & even more surprisingly...

fair play to the staff member in Debenhams. Could so easily have just taken the full price & said nothing.

O'Malleys, just up & across the road from Matt Molloy's pub. Big, varied menu & happy non-stuffy atmosphere.

    Ryanair Gift Vouchers - disasters

assuming you can actually type in the names of the passengers, one benefit of Ryanair vouchers is that you avoid the credit card charge. So, if your flights are costing close to (but under) a multiple of €25, you could be making a decent saving by buying vouchers.

    Cheap Skiing Destination

You probably won't get better value for money than in Scotland just now. Good skiing, no language worries, short flight - a good deal just now, I reckon. You could also try for late deals

    Has anyone been to Malaysia?

You'll be as safe in both those locations as you would be anywhere else. Be sensible, have a great time, and expect monkeys to nick stuff out of room in Langkawi if you leave the balcony doors open! Enjoy

Sky - why the phone line ?

Sky "ping" the boxes at random intervals & the ping back tells them that the box is still at the address they sold it to. Unless your neighbour is a friend & you have a very long phone line! There is no additional cost to you for the phoneline pings. But they'll be onto you pretty quickly if...

Best place for last minute Xmas Holidays?

You could always do it yourself! www.skyscanner.net is a good site for flights. There are many recommendations elsewhere on the site for hotel-finder websites. does very good resort & hotel reviews, you can book hotels through them too, but I don't know how competitive they are.

    Big News for AC/DC fans

Ah, ya can't beat a positive attitude! Luckily, there are some people around who'd tell you that you can enrol in the fan club to get priority for tickets. And if you still don't get tickets, they'll give you the membership money back.

    Big News for AC/DC fans

Aye, I'm an old rocker.:o I've seen just about everyone worth seeing. First time I saw AC/DC was '77 I think. Always a high-energy show, well worth the effort to see them live.
